Struggling to think of what to get. I remember feeling like I didn't have time for a shower or anything, so would toiletries be inappropriate? I would really value ideas. Thanks.

How about find a local beautician who does home visits (have a look on local fb pages of ask around) and get a a gift voucher for eg a pedicure of similar at home?

tomatoesarered · 29/04/2015 14:38

Good idea - I would love it. But she is a bit self conscious so probably not her thing. Thanks though.

Best presents I got were a voucher for beauty place round the corner so I could have an hour long pedicure but didn't have to go far or miss feeds, and a nice insulated mug with a good handle and lid so that I could drink hot tea one handed even if it took me an hour!

I did appreciate nice smellies, even if I didn't have time for a long shower often, I remeber the silence of a nice bath with l'occitane lavender bath stuff someone gave me on a saturday. It was really appreciated.

I also really loved the person who bought me lassinoh breast pads as they were less itchy and didn't move so less soggy tops. Not the most gifty thing but they certainly enhanced my life at that point.

Really nice scar cream was also great if she has had a CS.

Boxset to watch whilst baby is asleep on you and you can't move because they'll wake. Or books for Kindle (or magazines) for same purpose!

Snacks - nice things which she wouldn't usually treat herself to. I used to be starving at night when breastfeeding. And during the day when I couldn't summon up the energy to cook.

LorraineQuiche · 29/04/2015 14:46

what is your budget?

sunbathe · 29/04/2015 14:48

The insulated mug that Goulash mentioned, is a grand idea. I remember many cold cups of tea!

Something to do with one of her hobbies? Ie, something that's 'her' rather than just 'new mum'.

PurpleCrazyHorse · 29/04/2015 14:49

Depending on age of children, maybe a cinema voucher for her and partner, and an offer of babysitting?

Invite to come to yours for dinner (with baby). It's so lovely not to have to cook or wash up and with more people to hold the baby if he/she's fussy, it's lovely to also eat without interruption :)

Toiletries are fine too though.

tomatoesarered · 29/04/2015 14:49

The mug is a great idea. I want to spend about £20.

I also had an insulated mug and it was wonderful too. I've recommended it to loads of new mums.

A home massage (bliss)

Luxury bath stuff

Luxury hair masks

New make up voucher

Hair cut voucher

Lancôme face stuff - it's amazing

queenofthemountains · 29/04/2015 15:09

I'd get her the weekend meal deal from M&S or Waitrose. Nice food, dessert, wine or chocolates. My idea of a perfect present.

LorraineQuiche · 29/04/2015 18:51

I love the insulated mug idea. That and a nice selection of biscuits would be perfect Grin

FlossieTreadlight · 29/04/2015 18:56

Contigo travel mugs are amazing. The best mum present I received Smile

Somethingwitty2015 · 29/04/2015 21:23

Yes to the travel mug - I can drink tea while feeding DD without worrying about spilling on her. Whenever family ask what I want for pressies I say time to myself rather than yet another scarf so big yes to a couple of hours' babysitting and maybe (if budget stretches) cinema/manicure etc. for xmas my mum gave me a voucher for 2 hours a week babysitting. Best present ever.

SteamTrainsRealAleandOpenFires · 29/04/2015 21:31

How about a few hours kip, offering to take the baby out for a walk (that's if the mother isn't breastfeeding) every day?

MomOfTwoGirls2 · 29/04/2015 23:04

A really nice hand cream.

My hands totally dried up with the constant hand washing that goes with a new baby...
