Not sure why she's getting so much hate for trying to live on a budget. If anything it raises awareness how difficult it is to live from food banks.

Another celeb play acting at being poor to 'raise awareness' draw attention to themselves.

If you have no fuel because your electric and gas has been cut off, your beans can sit there in your £15 pressure cooker forever but are never going to feed you.

You need food you can heat up with boiling water or in a microwave.

Fucking limes!

I read it. I think good on her. She thought she would struggle, she did and she was honest about it. I don't see the problem.

GP generally does annoy me, however at least she bothered and hopefully learnt the lessons she said she did in the blog.
Even if she had managed this for longer than 4 days, people would still say it was only a week and not for a long period, or she was lucky she was able to start with certain kitchen equipment others would not have a chance to buy or she was able to cook the food what about the people with no money for electric/gas.

I have done something similar previously (it was a challenge more about living on the equivalent of benefit and within a hostel environment) and did start with the basis that I had to buy everything.

What good has it done anyone apart from her?

YaTalkinToMe · 29/04/2015 17:54

She says at the start that she made a donation, also the team at her blog also did it again hopefully raising awareness and money, she blogged about it again hopefully raising awareness, finally there is a link to donate so hopefully some rich readers would also donate.
Even if it only did any good only for her in that she was able able to remember her privilege that's got to be positive?

Fauxlivia · 29/04/2015 17:57

She tried to do a good thing in demonstrating that this is not enough money to live on healthily and imo she succeeded. Her role was to highlight the issue and being rich doesn't mean her opinion has no value. I think whatever she did she would have been criticised.
I'm not a huge fan of gp - I laugh at all the 'conscious uncoupling' bull shit but in this instance I think she did a good thing.

well said. good post Fauxlivia

You're telling that she couldn't have bought $29 worth of broccoli, carrots, apples, bananas, beans and noodles and used that to form part of her diet for a week?

There are plenty of fruit and veg which don't cost as much as the bollocks she bought.

She proved nothing about living frugally.
