to postal vote even if I'm not disabled

Hiya,

I always vote but it is a bit of a faf getting there to do it. My friend says she postal votes to avoid this. Is it fine for me to do this next time? Even though there's nothing preventing me from voting in person, it just would be easier.

Thanks

Yup, I do it!

OrlandoWoolf · 28/04/2015 12:21

What has being disabled got to do with it?

Some people like going to the polling station. For others,it can be a faff.

Smartleatherbag · 28/04/2015 12:22

I've been doing it for years. Means I always vote regardless of what I'm doing that day.

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 28/04/2015 12:22

Postal votes aren't just for the disabled you know Hmm

You can use one just because. You don't need a reason although I think you may have missed the deadline for this election.

mrssmith79 · 28/04/2015 12:22

Yanbu, people have postal votes for all kinds of reasons. It's just personal preference.

TheEmpressofBlandings · 28/04/2015 12:22

Yes of course! My DH always uses a postal vote as he can never guarantee being home on polling day if he's away with work or whatevef

Northumberlandlass · 28/04/2015 12:24

of course you can ask for a postal vote! Anyone can. I work on Election Day, so always do it.

AndWhenYouGetThere · 28/04/2015 12:25

Yes - I did. My work schedule means I won't be able to vote in my "parish".

Requiring people to go to a physical place on a set date seems old-fashioned to me. Bring on online voting!

RatOnnaStick · 28/04/2015 12:27

I always do. I'd never vote otherwise. Much much easier. I sent mine off at the weekend.

dexter73 · 28/04/2015 12:28

Dh and I postal vote. I sent mine off today. It's just so much easier. Wish they did online voting tbh.

TheMagnificientFour · 28/04/2015 12:28

Why would you need to be disabled to do a postal vote ConfusedConfused

If that means you are voting, then do it!

honeyroar · 28/04/2015 12:30

My postal vote didn't arrive one year though. Now I have a proxy vote that DH does for me (I work away).

The deadline has passed for both this time.

Figster · 28/04/2015 12:31

Christ alive I've postal voted for years in fact I've posted my votes already

RachelWatts · 28/04/2015 12:32

I've always voted by post. I've never voted at a polling station.

CarolBornAMan · 28/04/2015 12:33

I usually postal vote as I never know where I will be on the day and I want to vote! Last time I actually went to the polling station, I had to queue for nearly an hour and some people were actually turned away as they arrived before the polls closed but queues were too long to get votes in by close time.. would never want that to happen to me so postal vote guarantees me my right to vote.. just wish it helped with deciding who the hell to vote for!

ouryve · 28/04/2015 12:34

We do it. Have done for over a decade.

Andrewofgg · 28/04/2015 12:34

I do it. I think it should b cut back as it used to be to the disabled, the very oldest, medics, police officers, the candidates, and the like, but until it is it suits me fine.

StillaChocoholic · 28/04/2015 12:35

I've sent mine off today. I postal vote because the route I would have to walk to the polling station has no pavements so it's a pain with a pram.
So much easier this way.

ouryve · 28/04/2015 12:35

And the deadline has definitely passed - they arrive last week and DH and I have already voted.

museumum · 28/04/2015 12:36

yes, though not this time as you're too late.

I am postal voting as I have to leave for a meeting in london before the polling stations open and stay over.

Totality22 · 28/04/2015 12:36

I've voted already via postal vote (sent it off the day I got it - eager beaver that I am)

No disability here. Just laziness!!! Its so much more convenient for me.

prepperpig · 28/04/2015 12:36

We've voted already. All done.

The local authorities prefer people to postal vote. Adminstratively the election days are incredibly difficult for them. If more people did a postal vote it would make a big difference.

Speaking with a senior LA lawyer yesterday she predicted there would be electronic submission before long.

Sparklingbrook · 28/04/2015 12:36

I always do it. You get to avoid the Polling Station and the pencils on strings.

TheBoov · 28/04/2015 12:39

Postal votes are for everybody. I voted last week!

SheHasAWildHeart · 28/04/2015 12:40

I sent my vote off via the post yesterday. The didn't ask my reasons for wanting to vote this way. So easy I don't know why I've not done it before!
