Goodnight Sweetheart mashed up with Braveheart and Quantum Leap? With a soupcon of Mills & Boon.

I've only watched the first episode. Maybe it gets better. But holy shit it was so unoriginal and lame.

Is it worth persevering??

I LOVE the series but I love the books more. Book Jamie is streets ahead of
TV Jamie.

Definitely stick with it

There are some things that I like about TV Jamie better than book Jamie. In one very problematical scene, they made TV Jamie much more evolved than book Jamie. The first book was written in 1991 and it definitely has some 1970-80s bodice ripper aspects that I could happily do without. Those have been toned down for the TV series.

I think Sam Heughan is doing a great job as Jamie.

Have only seen stills and a couple of trailers. I have read the first 3 books and the first one was really good, but after that it all became a bit samey and I feel it lost its way. Someone gets beaten, someone gets raped, some sort of battle, repeat. I wish they had made the clothes better in the film from what I can see. I know it's fiction and some of the inaccuracies of the book have been addressed, but still. It's designed to be pretty/sexy from a 21st century perspective rather than as people were then. Thinking of the wedding outfit in particular. Boobs half hanging out and no head covering in church? This is seen in most if not all historical films though. I will still end up watching it I dare say.

It's historical fantasy porn for women and I agree with OP, the quality level is low. I bought the books but I only got through the first book and halfway into the second book. I always finish a book I have started except I just couldn't here, it was just too cheesy for me.

I will say the author was smart though. It was pretty much guaranteed to be a success given that the majority of the book reading public are women. Write a historical storyline - check. Have strong, feisty female heroine - check. Have a handsome sexy male who loves being faithfully married to the heroine and really really loves giving her oral sex, often - check.

I don't always finish a book I've started. I pretty well know within 3 or 4 pages if it works for me - and if it doesn't........

(One of the advantaged of a public library nearby - you can spread possible choices wide without hitting your purse. Smile)

Please tell.me it has a happy ending?

I love the books, just finished "written in my own hearts blood" (book 7 or 8 I think) and the story still isn't finished!!

Book Jamie is definitely better than TV Jamie, but I think they've made a good stab at converting the book to the television. Although Claire doesn't seem quite right with the woman I've imagined.
