I have multiple sclerosis and am 36 years old. Over the past year my walking has got worse (I use crutches) and I am now thinking that I need a mobility scooter. It sounds silly, but I am so nervous! I know that I should have a 'screw what everyone else thinks' attitude, but I think that I am going to feel self conscious. I live in a small town and have been well until recently so I know that I might get lots of questions/pitying looks. I also wonder what people will think if they see me at the park, for example, and then I get out of the scooter to play with the kids, then get back in to go home.

Waves at lovely man with pony :) im hoping next year, currently can manage a mobility scooter but can't even sit upright in a car without getting neck damage, so even getting to a holiday place is a huge deal. But the idea of freedom you must feel... Its an amazing idea and I hope you keep on doing it!

In other news if anyone is reading this thread still... Some bastard stole my mobile scooter rain cover and knee cover last night :( I have to keep it outside as live in flats with super small (1930s) lifts. Scooters are not waterproof so if electrics get wet it breaks. Thank god no rain last night. Am sad and feel really vulnerable. Bah humbug

I would only assume you were using it because you needed to.

If it lets you do fun things with your children go for it. They'll remember those times.

Other people's opinions are none of your business. Care less about them and be kind to yourself.
