To want to quarantine everyone around 3mo DS?

I'm on the train to go and see my DF and DSis with my 3mo DS. I'm very tired, need support and DH who's been v. supportive needs a break.
DSis just rang to say she's been vomiting all night long and DF all yesterday long, but she reckons he's good now.
AIBU to want to turn around and go home? Or to buy a giant bottle of hand sanitizer and drown them in it?
Please tell me it's a PFB attitude and we'll be fine...

Definitely don't go! My sister took this chance with her (older) kids en route to a week's holiday once (visiting relatives who had been vomiting the previous day, but claimed to be "fine") and paid for it with her daughter vomiting through most of the holiday. A three month old will dehydrate easily.

As an aside, most over-the-counter hand gels are only antibacterial, not antiviral, so wouldn't necessarily protect against a viral gastroenteritis.

Turn round and go home! Sorry.

AntiHop · 27/04/2015 09:59

You did the right thing. If you were talking about a cold if say you were being pfb. Bit d and v should be avoided for babies. They can get dehydrated which can be very serious and can require hospital treatment.
It must be very frustrating when you were looking forward to having some help from family. Wait 48 hours after their d and v stopped to see them.

Skiptonlass · 27/04/2015 10:04

Don't go. 48 hours free of vomiting/diarrhoea is the rule.

Ketchuphidestheburntbits · 27/04/2015 10:17

Op, you've done the right thing for yourself and your baby. You sound really fed up at the moment so I suggest that you do something nice for yourself on the way back home even if it's just buying yourself a magazine and bar of chocolate or similar.

You did the right thing. You and DH might need a break - but you won't get that if you and your little one both get D and V!
I would be furious to be honest - they should have told you at the first sign.

OP my kids are 9 and 7 and I stillwouldn't visit anyone who'd had D&V within 48 hours. Colds, pox, mystery virus' - fine. D&V is the pits and they always catch it.
