to loathe the word "bitty"?

Obviously nothing against or anti breastfeeding but I absolutely loathe the word "bitty" ....

It just seems so derogatory.

A friend of mine is currently breastfeeding and another friend keeps referring to it as "bitty" each time she does it.

YANBU, it was 'invented' to be a derogatory / piss take word.

LaurieFairyCake · 25/04/2015 21:06

It is derogatory

If women were able to breastfeed openly and it was totally accepted as normal to
do extended breastfeeding for years then it would be funny.

Until then it's just rude and sexist

JumpRope · 25/04/2015 21:07

I thought it was a joke?

Cliffdiver · 25/04/2015 21:07

Oh and your friend is weird to call BF 'bitty' I regret calling it boob as DD2 can now say it and shouts it when we are out.

SusanIvanova · 25/04/2015 21:08

I only use it to mean full of or comprising of bits. as in, the sauce was bitty. Who the hell uses it to mean breastfeeding. That's gross.

LifeHuh · 25/04/2015 21:08

Yep, YADNBU.Nasty derogatory word, and nasty implied message about extended breastfeeding. Ick.

flora717 · 25/04/2015 21:09

looks up word urggh. I'd be asking her to quit that.

LifeHuh · 25/04/2015 21:11

JumpRope, to me it's in that category of offensive stuff that you can't be offended by because, well, it's a joke, isn't it and where's your sense of humour....

lullabyneedy · 25/04/2015 21:15

Yes friend openly breastfeeds in front of us, which I'm happy about that she feels relaxed to do that and hasn't been put off by that constant comment.

I did voice my opinion once that I hate that word and she shouldn't use it and I was just met with Confused ... I hope she just doesn't really get that it's derogatory.

I thought that it was just used in Little Britain. I didn't realise it was a word people used in RL.

SylvaniansKeepGettingHoovered · 25/04/2015 22:47

It's openly taking the piss. I expect your breastfeeding friend hides how she feels. It's bound to make her secretly feel livid.

YourKidsYourRulesHunXxx · 25/04/2015 22:54

That 'friend' of your friend is a manky impressionable fool who needs a swift boot up the farter.

But in the confines of Little Britain, it was just a joke regarding a fully grown man and his mum still engaging in a breastular relationship. It's her that is the problem

ScathingContempt · 26/04/2015 00:11

I thought it was either made up for Little Britain or a middle class thing. I didn't know it was derogatory, why is it? What is the origin of it?

Fortunately I don't use it so won't have inadvertently offended anyone!

Happy36 · 26/04/2015 01:11

I never heard anyone say it except on LB.

ReallyTired · 26/04/2015 01:46

The little Britain skit was a grown man in his 40s breastfeeding. That is why it's funny. Breastfeeding a baby is normal.

A "friend" would quickly be an ex friend if she was nasty to a breastfeeding mother.
