To turn down 2nd interview

sunseeker66 · 24/04/2015 20:00

I recently applied for an a place that I have always fancied working at. I have experience in the industry and a job came up. I know it sounds silly, but I was really looking forward to it, imagining myself wearing the uniform etc.

I got invited to an interview, and it went ok, the interviewer was pleasant and polite. However, I didn't like the feel of the place, the atmosphere and I couldn't wait to be out of there.

The other day I got a call for a 2nd interview, andall day team building David Brent style event, but I don't think my heart is in it.

Should I tell them I have just changed my mind and not go?, surely it would be fairer to let them know now.

Feel so despondent though.

Do you have a current job that you need to take time off of in order to go? If not I would probably go along and see if it felt any better.

catgirl1976 · 24/04/2015 20:02

Go for the second and then you can explore if your initial feeling was right.

If it was and you get the job, you don't have to accept.

If you find out you were wrong and you love it, you'll be glad you went.

If you don't go you'll always wonder.

VelvetRose · 24/04/2015 20:05

It's up to you op, you could give it one more shot to be sure but if you feel really disillusioned then call it a day.

cashewnutty · 24/04/2015 20:07

I would give it a second go. You may feel differently after the second interview.

sunseeker66 · 24/04/2015 20:08

No I don't have a job at moment.

I have a niggling feeling of that I will regret it if I don't go, but then something better could come along?

I would probably go then, you don't have to accept if offered the role and at least you'll be sure how you feel.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 24/04/2015 20:09

If you are in work, it's often easier to move into another job. How long can you afford not to work for?

PowderMum · 24/04/2015 20:10

Go for the 2nd interview, you may change your opinion and it''s better to go and see than to forever think what if.

LemonYellowSun · 24/04/2015 20:11

If you really don't think it's for you, then don't go. You must know your gut feeling

Interviews are a 2 way process after all.

Olivo · 24/04/2015 20:15

I'm going to disagree and say that if your gut feeling is that it isn't right for you, don't go for the second one. I had this, felt unsettled walking away and declined the invitation t Ostend s second time. Later on, I was told the job was mine, but I didn't feel bad. I waited and got something so much more suited to me.

sunseeker66 · 24/04/2015 20:15

I don't need to work, we get by, but I wan't to work, but I want it to be right.

Lemon your right, I guess I am seeing what their like as well.

I have submitted an application for another job, so I might get lucky with that one.

I would go for it. If something else comes up then u can always leave.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 24/04/2015 20:25

you should go along and see it as interview practice then you will be better prepared for future interviews

sunseeker66 · 24/04/2015 20:29

Right ok so far there are more go for it's then no's.

I think if it wasn't a team event thing I think I would definitely go, I feel so much more comfortable in a formal interview.

Will have another chat with my DP later, but he is lovely and supportive, he says it is my decision and he will support my decision.

What Build said - any practice you get in interviewing now will help when you get an interview for a company you want to work for. You can always turn down the role if offered it.

peppapigonaloop · 24/04/2015 21:15

It sounds a bit like you are looking for a reason to escape the team day rather than being totally sure it's not for you. I can understand that as those things are my idea of hell but I think you might regret it if you don't challenge yourself to go and see what it's like..

londonrach · 24/04/2015 21:16

Not sure can never understand why they need second interviews. Just one question op will other potential interviewees be there too. Im not sure i like that. Its like viewing a house to buy at an open house. If you happy in your job and feel worried re second interview id listen to your gut. However the other half of me thinks what are you going to lose and just go for it! My no no would be with other interviewees as i think that crosses the line similar that apprentice thing on tv. Op you know whats right for you?

londonrach · 24/04/2015 21:17

Forgot to add good luck x

sunseeker66 · 24/04/2015 21:30

Yes your right peppa, I do not speak well in groups, but confident in my previous jobs.

I have till Monday to think about it.

Thanks for all your advice.

sunseeker66 · 24/04/2015 21:34

Yes rach, all the other ones that got through to the second round will be there. Like a competition.

KleineDracheKokosnuss · 24/04/2015 21:35

Go, just to get in the practice at interviewing if nothing else. IT may help when you find a job you do feel good about.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 24/04/2015 21:35

if you don't like team exercises (I hate them) then this could be a good confidence boost as the job you really do want might do them too

londonrach · 24/04/2015 21:41

Sorry sunseeker but for me i dont like that. Seems very wrong.

Micksy · 24/04/2015 21:45

In my experience, going for jobs you're not particularly bothered about getting usually means you pull off the interview of your life and end up getting offered something even better. Go for it!
