Someone on my team has come in in what I would say is a Brit abroad football fan look.

England flag cheap beach only type sandals, ill fitting vest, sunglasses rested on hair, shorts.

Aibu to say its too causal?

Not that this fact is important other than to help you visualise, he is sunburnt just to complete the look. Thank god there are no visitors in here today, would be a bit embarrassed.

Is there some kind of fancy dress/sponsored event? If not it sounds too casual for dress down Friday. And a bit odd.

twojobsjane · 24/04/2015 08:49

No there isn't , just dress down last Friday of the month and donations to the red cross.

Ask him if he's off to Ibeefa after work.

I may be old fashioned but I do think a bit of pride as to how you present yourself at work goes a long way specially as you say your office could have had visitors, but I also see the other side where the clothes you are wearing shouldn't affect the job that you do.

Is it a joke about "dressing down"?

If you are paying to dress down you will dress all the way down?

twojobsjane · 24/04/2015 09:09

Glam - I'm not that old style thinking in about dressing up for work as I want people to be comfortable however I draw the line at seeing armpits, chest hair and what looks like a fungal nail infection, puke

I guess if there are no rules about what's acceptable then it's probably fine. I popped into our office yesterday (on Mat leave) and there was a lady in Tartan hot pants with opaques and heels. They were lovely but ultimately inappropriate as per our dress guidelines.

glammanana · 24/04/2015 09:12

twojobs Now you have mentioned that it puts a totally difference light on the subject doesn't it I think you should have a quiet word if you can, thats put me right off my breakfast lol.

SirChenjin · 24/04/2015 09:13

Yuck - not a good look ever. Sadly, unless there are guidelines which specify what dress down means there will always been people who will wear what they see as casual dress - ie Magaluf beach wear

BackforGood · 24/04/2015 09:20

I think if it's a Charity fundraising day where you pay to wear what you want, then, fair play, they are wearing what they want. We all come with our own experiences, don't we, but whenever I've taken part in something like that people go out of their way to wear something completely different - be it your PJs, or a onsie, or fancy dress, or whatever.

I don't think you can ask for donations to wear what you want and then say - 'oh, but these rules apply'.

Also, my mind might be influenced by the fact that if we have an 'office day' then that's the day we don't see any of the public, so, in truth, that's the one day that month we'd all be likely to be in more casual clothing, anyway.

As a general rule, though, it's not what I'd describe as 'suitable for work' but this isn't a normal day from what you've said.

The guy who sits opposite me at work wears his jeans low so they sit below his pants on dress down Friday! I think it's horrendous Confused

Is it not just a very misguided attempt at a humorous play on St George's day and proceeds going to Red Cross? Only a couple more hours until the weekend
