I'm 7(ish) weeks pregnant and have been suffering terribly with 'morning' sickness.
I wasn't this bad with DD1 as it was only in the evenings and this is all day, every day. I have not been sick a lot just feel sick all the time and I was wondering if anyone has any thing different to try other thanthe usuals that get suggested (ginger biscuits etc)

I too had to resort to drugs when pregnant with DD2, I took cyclizine hydrochloride every morning and it really helped.

Before that I would drink rehydration drinks and eat whatever I wanted / needed - some days I would only have dry toast and a Bovril drink.

Don't worry too much about eating healthily, the baby will get all the nutrients it needs, take vitamin tablets if you want too. Once the sickness subsides you'll be able to make up for the terrible diet of the first trimester Smile.

When pregnant with DD1 I would eat a cracker / ginger biscuit laying down in bed 5 minutes or so before getting up, which helped a bit.

I would also keep a hankie with the scent of something I liked (I used Olbus oil) which I would sniff when I was around smells that would trigger the nausea.

Hope you start feeling better soon OP Flowers.

Focus on getting liquids inside you. When even water is too much, you need to see a doc.

I had horrendous HG with both pregnancies, was on a drip at least once a week and absolutely nothing relived the sickness or stayed down. If it gets this bad then there is a medication called Zofram. It has been used for many many years in America with few side effects and was literally a lifesaver for me and my baby.

Oh poor you, it's been a long time since I was pregnant but I remember the morning sickness like it was yesterday. I felt sick all day, every day, but only actually vomited once. I likened it to seasickness, horrible cross channel ferry sea sickness.... ugh. Dh had 'read up' on it and promised me it would ease off at 3/4months. I was literally counting the days and luckily for me it eased off but I know I was somewhat lucky!

Eating something, anything that doesn't make you heave too much, helped a bit. Go Ahead Nutri Grain bars literally as I woke up took the edge off although I haven't eaten one since back then! I had to force myself to eat it but as ppl have said, eating does help.

AntiHop · 21/04/2015 22:24

I had horrible sickness that lasted into second trimester. I found eating little and often helped. Had snacks by my bed eat just before I went to bed and as soon as I woke up. Tablets from gp helped.

toffeeboffin · 21/04/2015 22:27

Just eat. Mostly cereal, toast, etc. Stopped me feeling sick (and helped me gain 50 pounds) Grin

lemonyone · 21/04/2015 22:30

Poor you.

I survived on Fanta and salt and vinegar snack-a-jacks. I could only cope with sharp tasting things. Nothing else worked.

Hope you are well soon. Mine ended bang on 13 weeks having been horrific for the first 12!

Missrubyring · 22/04/2015 18:38

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone, it helps knowing that there are others that understand and have been through similar.
I tried jelly last night and it really helped for half an hour, which is longer than anything else atm.
Drinking plenty is hard because whatever I have usually ends up making me feel quite sick, so ice lollies and cubes are an essential.
Just hope this doesn't last as long as the first time ... fingers crossed.

cyclizine. Really. it is -absolutely- safe in pregnancy as far as is known and it's been used a very long time by millions of women (source: Pregnancy sickness support website; the doctor there is exceptionally experienced). 3 - 4 x a day, give it 3 days to build up in the system. Try to take it with Vitamin B6 if you can.

Rest, rest, rest as much as you can. It's not being weak. This nausea is caused by hormones and keeping going stresses your body more which leads to more and worse nausea. In THIS situation, you can't build up immunity, the way to deal with it is to rest.

Sip very hot or very cold liquids through a straw, or suck ice cubes. Flat coca cola helps some people. Watermelon or tinned peaches may be helpful.

others find salty stuff like crisps help. Oddly enough a lot of people find junk food helps like big macs or KFCs! Possibly it helps that it doenst take much digesting.

Does the sickness get worse if you move fast or watch TV, specially with swooping camera angles?

LauraMipsum · 22/04/2015 21:00

I found two bags of saline solution straight into a vein worked a treat, especially with a cyclizine chaser.

Wouldn't recommend the run-up to it though.

Sister lived on french fancies for about 2 months. She asked our mum if that ok. Mum said didnt matter as long as long as shes eating something, even if she brought it up again. Mum always got my sister and i to eat dry crackers whilst ill as better to be sick with something than on a empty tummy. However my sister couldnt stomach (no pun meant) the crackers when pregnant so it was the french fancies. Tbh from what my sister said eat what you feel like. It get better in time. Xxx

The sickness is so horrible but just to warn you l became addicted to polonium mints as just helped for that few minutes .. Afterwards my dentist killed me. So don't start on them....interesting about blood pressure as l had low blood pressure throughout all pregnancies ando was begging for help as soon dizzy and weak but no one suggested more talk

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 22/04/2015 21:44

polonium mints?!

No wonder the dentist was concerned

Actually, my DH is a dentist and currently giving me pelters about how much fruit juice in drinking through out the day. I'm trying to dilute it down it a bit with water and just drink with meals but it's fucking hard when you're wretching non-stop and want something g to settle your stomach

RavioliOnToast · 22/04/2015 21:45

I drank a lot of lucozade sport and water and ate a lot of those belvita biscuits

westcountrywoman · 22/04/2015 21:54
