AIBU to report my colleague?

Long story short, my colleague is very lazy. We work as a team but if he can find an excuse to get out of something and leave it for the person on the next shift ge will. He offered to take on extra responsibility for our new manager (who is currently doing 3 people's jobs) which is fine, but he is now neglecting his own job and leaving everything up to the rest of us.

Today I came into work to find that not only had he not done any of the stuff he was supposed to do for tomorrow's events (which he had all of his 7 hour shift to work on, with another person) but has left me to rush around this morning setting up last minute things for today's event - it should have already all been set up, hence me working on my own this morning, which he knows - and now I have put my back out trying to do heavy lifting on my own.

I am on a casual 0 hour contract and he is a permanent full time member of staff. My back is completely fucked and the next week is really busy with lots of heavy lifting set ups, but I can't call in sick because I won't get paid what with the type of contract I'm on. I used to be on the same level as him, but only for a year as maternity cover, and am now back to my old contract, although still do exactly the same job while we're short staffed at the moment. He has said a few times that I can't tell him what to do anymore (I wasn't! I was just letting him know what jobs needed to be done during the shift handover) because I'm only a casual now. While he's right, it has no bearing on what jobs still need to be done before we close the venue.

Another couple of colleagues want to complain too, but they've complained in the past about his laziness and it's had no effect. WIBU to complain to my manager about him not pulling his weight? I'm really pissed off that him not doing his job and setting stuff up ready means that I may struggle to pay my rent next month - if the manager sends me home this week because I'm useless to the team with my back, I will really struggle financially. I know that's not anyone else's problem but I don't think it's fair that I injured it doing what he should have done before. But I'm aware that in the past complaints haven't made a difference, and also that because the two of us don't really get on as colleagues it may be seen as a personal grudge rather than professional.

Wow, that was longer than I thought! Sorry for the rant, I'm just so fed up, as are all my colleagues!

Hmm Zero hour contracts really suck Regardless of your colleague what are you trying to do to find a permanent job ? It sounds very hard work worrying about money all the time
FedUpOfLazyColleague · 19/04/2015 11:53

I've been looking for a permanent job, and although I've had a few interviews I've not had any luck.

But that's really not the issue here. Even if I was a permanent member of staff I'd still be considering putting in a complaint.

You should put in a complaint. Calmly, factually, & with low expectations of any action, but at least you did something.

So after the shift from hell I sent an email to my manager complaining. Having spoken to DP, who also works there (although different department) I think I've done the right thing. I just hope that I'm not seen as a trouble maker. It's not that I want him to get into trouble, I just want him to do his fucking job.

Am still unable to stand or walk properly but hopefully my manager will be lenient with me.

Go and see a physio/osteo privately ASAP. They will be able to help you with your back.
