Being fair

When my daughter was 9/10 (she's now 13), she wanted to play a game online called 'Habbo', as it was a 12 I said no because she was to young to play it. Now my son, who is 11, wants to play a 15 rated game on the x-box. After re-searching it online and looking at the reviews or it, i'm going to let him play the game. Is this being unfair towards my daughter? If so what should I do about it? Confused

Explain you are working on a case by case basis.

freemanbatch · 19/04/2015 11:32

Did you research her game before you said no or did you look at the age only? If your daughter wanted to play the game would you agree to her doing?

I personally think you are being unfair on your daughter and you have to admit that to her so she knows you understand her upset, if she is upset, but you make decisions for your kids at the time you make them with the best knowledge and intentions you have at that time and we can't be expected to keep a record to look back on later so we don't mess up.

I however wouldn't let an 11 year old play a 15 game because someone with more knowledge of things than me has decided that there is something that makes the game unfit for 11 year olds.

What is the 15 rated game out of curiosiry?

DontOpenDeadInside · 19/04/2015 11:43

Having just researched Habbo, no ywnbu to not let your daughter on it even now at 13, its a bit Shock I suppose xbox games are a lot less interactive than online pc games but it depends what the content involves.

Thanks for the help, i'm going to get my son a alternative age appropriate game.
(The game was 'Dark souls', which he won't be playing now Smile)

Glad you aren't getting him it OP. As one of the older ones, I was always annoyed that my parents seemed to favour the younger by changing the rules for them.

Oh good, glad you changed your mind.

I was the eldest girl and my parents were strict with me.

My younger brother got away with all sorts that I couldn't have.

Always really pissed me off!

CheapSunglasses - My DD says the same thing however she chooses to forget the things her younger brother had to start doing when I made her do it!!
