People who offer to wash up, but only do 90% of it!

This drives me INSANE!

PIL are staying and offer to do washing up. Great I think!

They do it, but when I come back in there are still 2 dirty cups sitting on the table, there is still a still a single dirty bowl on the side and a few dirty teaspoons. None of the surfaces or the table have been wiped... So I end up having to finish off what they started!

I don't find it that helpful or relaxing when I know I will have to finish off their cleaning!
I think I'm being a tiny bit U, but arrrrrgh it's so annoying!

I never allow anyone to wash up my crockery and cutlery, as nobody does it to my standard!

I know what you mean, athough it's one of those things you just have to smile and let go, I think!

It's different if it's a DH as they should jolly well do the job properly in their own house (mine used to leave dirty water in the washing up bowl with one teaspoon floating in it but doesn't anymore!) but, with visitors, smile and wave, smile and wave! Unless they are causing more work for you by, say, washing every single item in the laundry basket without any thought as to how you are going to get five baskets of washing dry in the middle of winter with no tumble dryer (not that my mum ever did that to me, oh no!)

In your case I'd wander casually through the kitchen and put all the things that need washing next to the sink for them, and wipe the sides down later.

Wayyy too many important things in life to worry about other people's washing up skills!

How ungrateful.

Dp once took 45 minutes to wash a bowl of dishes I kid you not.
He washed everything thoroughly, rinsed it, washed it again, rinsed it, you get the picture- he nearly had one smashed over his head!

Sod that, he's never done it since, the mess was unbelievable and it drove me mad watching him.plus he used half a bottle of fairy liquid.

He's now in charge of bins, we've got the cleanest wheely bins in the world:)

For guests I'd be grateful that they'd helped at all. It's not the same at all as DH or DCs doing a crap job.

My DH's special trick was putting everything in the bowl to 'soak' even if it didn't need it. Then I had to take it all out, sopping wet, and find somewhere for it to sit while I refilled the bowl with clean water. Needless to say, I put a stop to that but not before cutting myself on a tin lid DH had cleverly hidden in with the 'soaking' washing up.
