Why do posters insists on calling it CAHMS?

is it so it is untraceable?

OP posts:
TheFirstOfHerName · 18/04/2015 17:14

I think of it as CAMHS in my head, but the clinic my child attends seems to be called something completely unrelated. It's got 'Family' in the title, can't remember the rest.

The worse his health becomes, the more acronyms we encounter: PTSD, EMDR, SSRI, CAF, TAF...

TheFirstOfHerName · 18/04/2015 17:17

I am usually as pedantic as anyone, but once I get to the desperation point of asking strangers online for help about my child's mental health, getting an acronym correct is the least of my concerns. Smile

Baddz · 18/04/2015 17:19

Gosh.
You are incredibly fortunate if this is all you have to worry about op.

chocolatelife · 18/04/2015 17:29

oh dont worrry Baddz, i have plenty of crises in my life, as much as the next man, if not more

OP posts:
MsJudgementalPants · 18/04/2015 17:36

Call it what you will, just please give my son an appointment!

BertieBotts · 18/04/2015 17:37

I think they're not really going through each word when they spell it and just thinking of it as an actual word. I'd pronounce camhs similar to calms/carms or maybe cams, but either way it then feels right to put the h after the a instead. Cahms/calms/carms.

chocolatelife · 18/04/2015 18:07

that makes sense bertie,
people are thinking Calms

OP posts:
Trenzalore · 18/04/2015 18:39

I also refer to it as SHIT.

Nuff said.

SouthWestmom · 18/04/2015 18:51

I also refer to it as shit. Staffed by people who don't give a monkeys.

Trenzalore · 18/04/2015 18:54

totally what Noeuf says!

SouthWestmom · 18/04/2015 18:58

Trenzalore, I really want to like your post!
Our experience is that they cannot be bothered to return calls or provide updates and probably make things up.

MyArksNotReady · 18/04/2015 19:00

SHIT oh yes, it will forever now be renamed to the better description of the service.

MyArksNotReady · 18/04/2015 19:01

SHIT projector's who can't write factually correct notes.

TheFirstOfHerName · 18/04/2015 19:04

Or who completely mislay a child's file when he is acutely unwell; with the consequence that weekly appointments suddenly become a two month gap with no explanation...

itsnotmeitsyou1 · 18/04/2015 19:07

Or completely mess up a situation, blame the parents entirely, leading to a monumental cock up and serious consequences. But , of course we must call them by the correct name Hmm.

MyArksNotReady · 18/04/2015 19:11

Then tell you it's tricky for them to write to others they gave the wrong information to. Thankfully the blamed parent learned their lesson and covertly recorded the second time. Wink So the parent couldn't be blamed the second time.

SouthWestmom · 18/04/2015 20:12

Oh I'm itching to reveal how cheap they are but having formally complained it would be obvious who I am!

SouthWestmom · 18/04/2015 20:13

Crap! Not cheap!

drudgetrudy · 18/04/2015 20:13

Its an official NHS abbreviation-used to be called Child and Family Guidance in the past but changed name late 80s early 90s
The title is only the tip of the iceberg re the ridiculous abbreviations they use.

SouthWestmom · 18/04/2015 20:32

SHAMS would be better.

DishwasherDogs · 18/04/2015 20:36

SHAMS or SHIT sound about right here :)
Wonder if they realise how unhelpful they are sometimes.

CarryOnCramping · 18/04/2015 20:48

Oh come on OP. The people who are using this abbreviation on mumsnet will most likely be going through hell and you want to nitpick over a misplaced letter?

Not helpful or nice at all.

CharlesRyder · 18/04/2015 20:57

Now we also have ECP, no EHCP plan, no EHC plan, no EHPC careplan... WTF is it???

I have been teaching it to myself in the shower so I don't sound like a numpty... no other bugger is doing any better though.

I might call it a DoPKAS (document previously known as statement).

thornrose · 19/04/2015 09:25

This I love! Grin
