... to stay with SKY and not accept EE's TV and broadband offer.

I have been with for SKY for a year, under their promotional deal. I have the broadband, line rental and SKY's family package for around £40.00 a month, though as my promotional deal is near ending, it would be around £50.00.

I recently had a call from EE TV sales team, and they were offering me the same deal as SKY, though for SKY movies too, for around £40.00. Obviously, this deal was sounds much better and I was willing to switch to EE right away. Though, I thought it would be best to think this through (and speak to SKY). I tried to research some info regarding EE TV, but found limited results ( I guess because it's quite new), I then spoke to an EE TV customer service ( not the sales team) and he told me things quite differently to what the sales rep told me. I already have a phone contract with EE, though I find that when I have problems, they are crap in those scenarios.

I then called SKY and told them I was worried about the increase and the representative put me back to the same plan for another 12 months.

Just in time, the EE representative called me back and she sound very disappointed that I chose to stay with SKY, she even put me through to her manager and he sounded like he was almost going to cry. Why is this?

I then felt a bit bad and thought I was stupid for not taking up EE's offer. What do you guys think?

It's a sad and irritating fact of modern life that, unless you are on some kind of introductory or retention deal for this sort of product, you will be paying more than you have to.

Well done for getting a discount out of Sky. We just left them after paying full price for nearly 20 years Shock and they made no attempt to keep us with any offers.

Only now, a couple of months after we left, have they offered 50% off TV for a year, which I don't think we are going to take as we are now on an introductory deal with plusnet for the broadband and phone, and Now TV and Freesat for the TV, paying less than half what we were before, although there are a few obscure TV channels that we don’t have anymore.

In a year’s time, I will move again, to EE, or Virgin, or whoever is doing the best deal at the time. You can get decent cashback from Quidco for switching too. It is a little bit of work, but can save quite a lot of money if you have the time and energy to keep up with it.

Oh god, don't touch EE broadband with a barge pole. awful. Manager was probably sobbing because they're losing customers hand over dust due to shocking service and abysmal customer care.

Welshmaenad · 17/04/2015 14:52

Dust? Fist!

glammanana · 17/04/2015 14:56

Don't feel bad about it at all,you have a deal which suits your budget and you can relax for 12 months.I do this every August and ring BT and ask what they can offer me to stay with them for another year and for the past 3 years I have had my total bill including calls for about £40.00,that includes unlimited Infinity BB,I hr anytime calls in Uk BT Vision & BT Sports and internet security, this year my mission is to get it cheaper again as there are so many new providers to negotiate with.

ladylily29 · 17/04/2015 15:16

We had EE broadband and it was abysmal. It didn't work more frequently than it did work.

MNpostingbot · 17/04/2015 15:23

Only just moved from EE to sky, should have gone sooner.

Don't do it unless you aren't bothered whether the Internet works!

Tootssweet · 17/04/2015 15:35

We've not long moved from Virgin to EE & are finding it so much better than their supposed fibre optic amazballs cover. Sorry to hear others aren't getting such a good deal this is also after being with Virgin (& equivalents) for 18 years & getting really rubbish customer service. Was actually called 'an idiot' for leaving them. So we are finding EE fantastic compared to that!

SquinkiesRule · 17/04/2015 15:45

My broadband and phone deal with Sky ended today, I was hoping I could sign up to a new offer online (same as I have only cheaper) But when I try it says I already have that package even though my bill will go up. I suppose I should call and see what we can get. I hate calling I'd rather extend for another year online. Maybe I'll see what BT has going for me online. Or talk talk or plus net maybe, are those any good?

MNpostingbot · 17/04/2015 15:48

Not questioning your post Toots (I think a lot of the service issues are dependent on where you are and when you use the net) - but coincidentally I had a call from EE after I left that wasn't unlike that. They didn't call me an idiot - they said I was "stupid"'for going to Sky then gave me a load of shady sounding stats about how old sky's servers were.

Looks like these phone co's are now employing teams to phone up and try and scare you to staying with them!

butterflyballs · 17/04/2015 15:50

We have just moved to EE and for £30 a month get tv, broadband and anytime unlimited phone calls including 0845 numbers and 1000 minutes free to mobiles.

So far so good, it's all working fine. Their customer service is absolutely atrocious though, takes 30 minutes to get through every single time I've had to call but now it's in place I'm happy with it.

I feel for the Doctor Wilson in 'House' who stated sadly that he was the only guy in the US who paid list price for a car. I phoned Sky to suggest that I wanted to terminate my contract - hoping for a reduction in price - and the person at the other end only said (in a bored voice) 'OK - from what date would that be?'

They must see me coming. Sad

TantrumsAndBalloons · 19/04/2015 11:43

I had a call from EE about this as well.
It sounded good- I asked the woman to call me back in 2 days as I wanted to talk to Sky first to clarify prices etc.
she said ok but then said oh can I just put my manager on the phone?
He started saying to me ""now you've signed up to EE then we will send you this info by post etc, I explained I hadn't signed up yet, I would make a decision and I had asked them to call back on Friday.
He started getting very irate and saying well want do you want to phone sky for, we have given you all the information, if you don't sign up today the offer expires then said, maybe I can explain this to your husband, he might understand more.

So we stayed with sky Grin

adrianna22 · 20/04/2015 00:23

Grin I had the exact same experience Tantrums.
That's the one thing that put me off from joining them.
