To have snapped at my mum like this?

I am a new driver, having only passed my test at the end of December. Yesterday I drove my mum to an out of town appointment and on the way there on a particularly bendy road, she suddenly poked me in my head just above my left eyebrow completely out of the blue, didn't warn me or anything Shock I jumped out of my skin and nearly swerved right across the road! I can't remember exactly what I said but I really snapped at her. She said she was brushing a hair off my glasses because it was annoying her and could she please have her head back after I'd bitten it off Hmm I had 3yo DD in the car too ffs.

I wasn't unreasonable was I?

No you weren't and she shouldn't have touched you without warning

Catnuzzle · 16/04/2015 18:22

Nope. Not unreasonable at all.

WorraLiberty · 16/04/2015 18:23

OMG YANBU

And if it wasn't so dangerous, it would actually be funny!

I hope you know what I mean by that.

Glad you're all ok

Gruntfuttock · 16/04/2015 18:28

What a very stupid, incredibly dangerous thing for your mother to have done! Of course YWNU.

thatstoast · 16/04/2015 18:32

Does she drive? My mother is the worst passenger as she has no idea of the amount of concentration needed when driving. She also blocks mirrors, puts her stuff on the gearbox, she's just clueless.

FenellaFellorick · 16/04/2015 18:42

I would have stopped the car and booted her out!

well, threatened to, anyway Grin

does she really have no idea how dangerous what she did was?

TheCunnyFunt · 16/04/2015 18:44

Yes my mum drives, she's driven for over 30yrs! Her car's off the road at the moment which is why I took her yesterday. She said (I think she was trying to make light of it) she's done that with everyone that she's a passenger with and now I'm driving it was my turn Shock she used to fiddle with my dad when they were still together, she'd pick his spots and pluck stray hairs, she's done this with my sister too, brushed away stray hairs and stuff. I can't understand why she doesn't think it's a problem Confused

Yanbu. Make her sit in the back or strap her to the roof

FryOneFatManic · 16/04/2015 18:48

If your mum were a passenger in my car, I'd have stopped and booted her out. Passengers should not distract the driver.

TalkingintheDark · 16/04/2015 18:51

Just snorted my coffee at "strap her to the roof"

Excellent advice

pudcat · 16/04/2015 18:51

My god I would have stopped the car and told her she could walk. The stupid woman.

Oldraver · 16/04/2015 19:07

So was she brushing off an imaginery hair, or poking you on purpose for the fun of it ?

TheCunnyFunt · 16/04/2015 19:13

I did have a hair caught in my glasses and it was annoying her. She's renowned for not resisting adjusting/fiddling with anything that's annoying her. For example if a square coaster was on a square/rectangle coffee table and was slightly wonky, she would adjust the coaster so it was sitting parallel to the edges of the table. Does that make sense?

yes Blush

What's up with that?

Grin
tinkerbellvspredator · 16/04/2015 19:20

Ban her from the front seat. I would not be putting up with that shit.

TheCunnyFunt · 16/04/2015 19:24

Nothing is up with it, I was just using it as an example of how she can't leave anything alone if it's bugging her.

Mine's like that - I'll suddenly get cold fingers down my neck because she saw my label was hanging out. She also has form for answering her phone in the car, not being able to hear properly, and leaning over to shove the phone against my ear. While I'm driving.
