They've really over egged it by saying he proposed outside primak. Lol

Surely this is just something made up and the DM gave them a bit of money to use their image? Is this how newspapers work?

I feel quite sorry for her

OP posts:

iggy, you are a journalist twisting MY words now, i never actually said i did not think she was vulnerable, she probably is, but i actually said why is it assumed that all these types of cases have a negative back ground story to them. if you hate admitting to your job that much why did you take it up and more to the point why stay in it, some people on here might think you work for the dreaded dm, gasp, horror ! [ meant light heartedly ]!

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 16/04/2015 21:46

Fab post from MrsTodd. Not so from OP. Medona, why exactly did you post this? Did you want people to have a pop at this woman? That's what I think of your OP, you just didn't have the guts to come right out with it. I don't believe that you feel anything for this woman, you wouldn't have posted as you did if that were true.

I won't even read the story, won't click or load that link. DM is a tabloid, why does anybody give a toss what it says? Stupid is as stupid does as my gran used to say. Never a truer sentiment.

Dawndonnaagain · 16/04/2015 21:55

I only have experience of this one person with schizophrenia
I'm getting more experience with the hard of thinking by the minute...

Hmm
IggyStrop · 16/04/2015 21:56

We are talking about this story though, not all the stories written by the dm, mrsfuzzy. But people usually think the DM exploits vulnerable people exactly because of stories like this. Remember the Philpott story? Shameful. can you name any other publications that have as many accusations of exploitation levelled at them as the Daily Mail have?

BoulevardOfBrokenSleep · 16/04/2015 21:56

I opened a bank a/c this week, and one of the first q's they asked me was, 'Do you have any issues that might affect your understanding of our conversation today?' or something like that.

Might be a nice touch if journalists chucked that in before interviews. Cat in hell's chance though.

AgaPanthers · 16/04/2015 21:57

They were paid £200, and say they only wanted a £500 loan. The £10k figure is invented.

I love my job! It's the eye roll and the comments I get about being a parasite that mean I'm selective about mentioning what I do.

mrsfuzzy · 16/04/2015 22:05

i'm sure you are good at your job iggy, but you know how it is, everyone gets tarred with the same brush, some journos and writers will say anything to get the story, it's not a good situation, i couldn't comment on newspapers though in general, as i haven't brought any for years, i'm not interested in reading them.

BoulevardOfBrokenSleep · 16/04/2015 22:06

I do occasionally come into contact with just the local newspaper for various reasons. I have many bits of paper to certify I'm well smart, and I still shit myself when I have to make a statement to a journalist.

I am second guessing myself all the time about what the journo meant when they asked that question, what answer they were looking for, how the statement I have given could be chopped up and taken out of context... and I still managed to appear in last week's local press saying several things I almost but not quite said. Hmm

Someone who actually trusts the journalist has no chance, esp if they have LDs too.

mrsfuzzy · 16/04/2015 22:11

while i feel for this couple, i don't understand why anna feels that the government would/could loan them £500 to get married even they were going to pay it back, it's great that they want to get married, but why should the tax payer get involved ? have any of you 'closer' readers decided to boycott the mag yet ?

IggyStrop · 16/04/2015 22:11

I don't write "hard news ", more features.I am always shocked at how much people are willing to tell me, really sensitive and personal stuff. I only publish what I would like to see written about myself. which means I am not considered particularly great at my job. On the other hand, I sleep well each night and haven't made any enemies.

LynetteScavo · 16/04/2015 22:16

I get the rage when people refuse to marry until they can have the perfect wedding day.

If you want to get married, get married. A marriage is about much, much more than a big party where you are the center of attention.

If I'd waited until I could afford the perfect wedding, DH and I would be 73yo!

So for me, this has nothing to do with benefits.

Buxtonstill · 16/04/2015 22:21

They write stuff like this to whip up hysteria and hatred, and to encourage people to visit their website.
OP, you fell for it hook, line and sinker.

fakenamefornow · 16/04/2015 22:21

Bit off thread but she didn't look that fat to me. I see much heavier out and about working.

mrsfuzzy · 16/04/2015 22:26

sorry, did i miss something, she can't work because she's obese ? there are several large people who work in my local supermarket, must be on average 15 /16 stone, why has she never worked ?

MistressDeeCee · 16/04/2015 22:37

Who would know "why" she can't work? One thing for sure, you aren't going to get the truth of it from the gutter press.

Yes..Im quite sure she sauntered to benefits office they took 1 look agreed "ooh yes she's too fat to work", bypassed all the usual assessment guff & dished out benefits, based solely on her sizeHmm

Mrsfrumble · 16/04/2015 22:50

Meh. I only got half way through reading it when I was distracted by the picture of Neil Patrick Harris's gorgeous children in the sidebar.

It was like an Onion parody of a Daily Mail article. Only less well written and very dull.

lucycant · 17/04/2015 16:16

What she probably actually said was - I can't work because of x disability/chronic health condition.
Interviewer - do you think being fat makes that worse?
Woman - well yes probably, but..
Interviewer writes down - too fat to work.
And if she really was too fat to work, I know several people who should march down to the benefits office and claim their benefits straight away, as they are working.
