Ok, how do you do it? How do you keep the 58 bazillion litres of water in your kids paddling/swimming pool slime free and not murky after just a day? The sun was warm yesterday, went to costco and bought a 10ft quick fill and had a very happy DD. Have just gone outside this morning and every piece of grass, fluff and insect is in it and the water looks like you could scoop a layer off the top...and it's only April. Ideally we would have a cover for it but it's an odd shape with a seat and one won't fit. Do I just have to use a fishing net to get all surface stuff off? Is there anything I can put in the water to make it cleaner (not keen on chemicals but would consider anything to avoid that slimy feeling when I want to paddle at the end of a busy day) - or do I have to suck it up and just change the bloody water every other day?

I seem to remember my Mum shoving the pool in the garden and filling it up as a kid in the 80's and it just remaining in place until we (and every other kid in the neighbourhood) had finished with it in September when we went back to school. Don't get me wrong, I don't think a pool set up quickly in April for a freak hot day should last all summer without frequent water changes but what's your fail-safe way of keeping your pool water from resembling something Shrek would blissfully swim in?

Try a fitted sheet over the top. But you will need to scoop stuff out with a net in addition

It's only April! I point blankedly refused to take out the paddling pool or let the dc have a water fight yesterday because...it's only April!
It'll be back to cold winds and rain by next week.

We don't keep ours up for longer than a couple of days.
The garden isn't big enough and I like my two younger DC to be able to play out unsupervised.
Isn't it freezing cold if you leave it out all the time?
I think even if you have a cover it will be 'bitty'. The swimming pools we've had on villa holidays have needed a clean with a net regularly despite us putting the covers over at night.
