To think the couple on 'Don't tell the Bride' tonight are probably already divorced

I know it's just tv but the bride didn't look at the groom with anything other than contempt - why do they do it?

I've heard the have to pay the money back if they don't go through with it (it was only on here though). Surely it must be true as why else would these brides go through with it? That bungee jump/skydive one was awful. She was terrified. As was the Vegas one and many of them actually. So few seem to be done with any sort of consideration for the bride.

I'm sure on the last thread some posters came on and said contracts were signed which meant you couldn't talk about it. And if things were going too smoothly the production team would feed back some info to make the bride kick off and edit it to make the bride look like a cow.

Does anyone know someone who has been on DTTB?

ClashCityRocker · 14/04/2015 21:43

Also, how does it work legally?

I thought you had to give notice/have banns read four weeks prior to the ceromony? And that the wedding venue is part of the notice thingy.

It is fun to watch though. I just preferred the earlier ones before it got way ott.

I think the brides go through with it because of the pressure and the fact that they have to pay the 12k back - plus I suspect that they could quite easily make a renaging bride look like a total bridezilla on national TV. Would love to see the unedited versions.

crapbag don't know anybody, but was on a wedding forum with someone who's sister had apparently been on. She said that the groom does not have free choice in what he does - the producers have to agree so they can effectively veto any 'boring' options. Don't know how true it is though.

Justusemyname · 14/04/2015 21:50

There has been follow up show. The Vegas bride said they were renewing their vows and she was in charge. The one with the helicopter or pink carriage are divorced.

whatsagoodusername · 14/04/2015 21:51

Last time I saw one of these threads, there was a MNer who had been one of the brides (not one of the really crazy wedding ones). IIRC, she said it was very heavily edited.

PHANTOMnamechanger · 14/04/2015 21:54

surely the fundamental problem with this show, and with other lavish weddings that turn into problem marriages/divorces, is that too many people have the idea that getting married and having the big fairytale day, will somehow be like waving a magic wand, solving all their differences and giving them a happy ever after. Too many couples plough on with wedding plans that they are not seeing eye to eye on, because neither is brave enough to dissappoint family and call the whole thing off.People are deluded.

Bakeoffcake · 14/04/2015 21:57

Does anyone remember the awful bride Lucy? She behaved like a six year old and had a Hissy fit with the wedding dress because it showed off the tops of her arms.Hmm

She kept saying through gritted teeth "he'd better not leave me, if I wear this dress".[Shock]

The poor wedding shop lady looked petrified!

Christinayangstwistedsister · 14/04/2015 21:58

Oh god yes, I remember Lucy...bridezilla

DustBunnyFarmer · 14/04/2015 22:08

Oh and the one at the gym on muscle beach in la....which no one from her family could afford to attend

We watch it with our 2 boys - it is a family favourite for some reason - and even my 7 year old was aghast at this one, saying how sad it was for the bride that she couldn't have her family there. DS1 (age 9) said "it's all about him, he isn't thinking about her at all".

We liked the LARPer. His fantasy wedding was bonkers, but lovely.

There was one recently where the youngish bride was a friggin nightmare. She was so horrible and sulky. It was the one with the casino themed evening do. We reckon they won't last the year - or else it will go the distance, but he'll be miserable for the whole marriage.

Also, there was the one recently where the awful, awful best man persuaded the groom he needed a £500 stag night and a designer suit for himself. The stag do was watching the footy in the pub, which the groom didn't even like (footy). DH commented that there was a really odd, slightly sinister dynamic between best man and groom. We all agreed he was no kind of friend at all.

BlackStiltonBoots · 14/04/2015 22:08

Ah makes sense that the producers are pressuring the grooms into stupid decisions because early ones were mostly pretty sensible but lately they are ridiculous- muscle beach, skydive, farmyard etc.

Ooh I might see if I can find the follow ups on iplayer, I've never seen one!

CrapBag · 14/04/2015 22:22

Dust I remember that best man. He was awful. Certainly no friend at all.

I'm sure someone said before that the producers have certain venues and bridal shops etc already lined up. They must have to check with people they are happy to be filmed etc so must do research and that prior to the filming. Plus the bride never ever goes to the same bridal shop, there can't be that any around that they always pick a different one.

CookPassBabtrigde · 14/04/2015 22:29

I thought that about tonight's couple aswell. They seemed really mismatched even though they had been together a long time.

I know a woman who has applied to be on it, even though her and her DP aren't actually engaged (yet), it's like a strange attempt to edge him towards a proposal which I found pretty weird. He's not so bothered about getting married but she is desperate to - shes a bit of a control freak and all she wants is a 'big day' with every minute detail planned out in her head already so I can't imagine how she would deal with having no involvement in the planning!

It would make a cracking episode if they do get on it though, providing he does actually propose in time!

SeaMedows · 14/04/2015 22:32

I know someone who did DTTB - not one that's been mentioned on here. He said that in his experience, the production team actually deliberately made changes to what he'd booked so it looked like a cock-up and he'd been really inconsiderate, while what he'd planned was maybe not ideal but the best he could do with the budget and the number of people he knew the bride would want to be there. And they are still very happily married and now have DC!

CrapBag · 14/04/2015 22:32

Mexican wrestling wedding

CrapBag · 14/04/2015 22:33

Which wedding was it sea?

DowntownFunk · 14/04/2015 22:55

My favourite ever was the Scottish one with the wedding cake in the shape of the bride's nose. Oh and the classy cat toilet seats in the working mans club.
