For spraying champagne in that poor woman's face. I hope someone has told him what a complete dickhead he is. She looked really uncomfortable and embarrassed.

Nicole you have dodged a bullet

The Daily Mail have picked this up because they don't like Lewis perhaps because he isn't white

F1 drivers spraying champagne in to people's faces / breasts / whatever happens every race. I know this because I watch the GP.

You'd also know she was quite happy smiling a few frames later if you had watched it. I'm pretty sure she knew what she was letting herself in for, as was Rosberg and Lewis as they sprayed each other in the face moments later.

emotionsecho · 14/04/2015 12:24

There's another thread in chat about this but from the angle that the DM are unfairly picking on LH over this and other things such as the tax avoidance issue.

I said on there that all British drivers have suffered criticism from the British Press regarding their behaviour and tax avoidance practices LH is not being singled out.

I also doubt that the grid girls at next weeks Bahrain Grand Prix will be sprayed with the champagne substitute.

Agree wholeheartedly with the comments regarding having these grid girls, I cringe at the line of women lining the corridor clapping the winners as they make their way to the podium but then F1 is run by the enlightened Bernie Eccleston and his coterie.

Pantah630 · 14/04/2015 12:43

Endurance racing has finally put an end to the brollie dollies see here let's hope it crosses over to F1, Moto GP and the rest very soon.

BeeRayKay · 14/04/2015 12:55

Umn,

Can I point out that these girls choose to be aiming to be on the podium with the drivers? I'd give a left arm to be there with them, feeling that pounding energy, celebrating someone exceeding in their chosen field.

yawn

emotionsecho · 14/04/2015 13:05

I'm not sure choice is a concept women in some of the countries the GP is held in are familiar with.

watchingthedetectives · 14/04/2015 13:07

BeeRayKay I think that's a bit sad - do it in your own right not as the arm candy

F1 is a racist, sexist and elitist environment and yet it is hamilton that is singled out for an act that can be witnesessed at most podiums in F1 and by many other drivers. Still cannot stop watching!

Smoorikins · 14/04/2015 13:10

'Sad'? Really? As an F1 fan, I'd freakin love to be up there with them. I'll never be eye candy though - I think it's odd that you think that is what BeeRayKay's post is alluding to. Obviously it'a about the sport and the atmosphere and being part of that.

Costacoffeeplease · 14/04/2015 13:15

I don't get why anyone would watch cars driving round in circles, and the twats that actually do drive round in circles are all arses in my opinion, and to be podium dolly, my god, have a bit of self respect

justonemoretime2p · 14/04/2015 13:16

YABVU

emotionsecho · 14/04/2015 13:18

Time he's a British driver whose being written about by the British Press is that really being singled out?

CloserToFiftyThanTwenty · 14/04/2015 13:19

I really want to like Lewis (he is outstanding at what he does, he's really sweet with his brother), but...but... There's just something about him that irritates me

Smoorikins · 14/04/2015 13:20

'self respect' - really? This is one weekend a year in these places, it's not a full time occupation - you have no idea what these women do with the rest of your time.

youarekiddingme · 14/04/2015 13:24

Really? Hardly a shock that someone got sprayed by champagne at the end of an F1 race is it? A photo is a split second snapshot. They don't tell the whole story.

And yes, I agree it's quite old fashioned and behind the times having scantily clad woman there to draw attention to the men - but woman are willing to do it so it will carry on.

And Lewis Hamilton is a arranging arse. Possibly? Probably? Bpbutnhesnthe world best F1 driver. I very much doubt he would be without arrange nce. Mr passive nice guy isn't going to get to the top - he's probably pull over and let the other drivers past!

GGabcd · 14/04/2015 13:38

So they shake up a bottle of champagne and spray it every where?

Why don't they just pull out their dicks and jack off over the women?

Same symbolism.

RedToothBrush · 14/04/2015 14:02

I have to say I wouldn't mind being a podium dolly. For no other reason that it'd be a bit of a laugh.

I think the champagne symbolism isn't about dicks. Its more about an expression of pure excess and wastage which is reflective of the sport even more. Something that I can understand people having a problem with too but I don't think this particular act is deliberately steeped in cock comparisons.

The sport is riff with sexism, but I don't think that means that the women are particularly exploited either. And I do think it is changing. (Not nearly fast enough, but it is happening).

RE: Hamilton. He's annoying because he acts like a spoilt baby when he doesn't have things go his own way. He's arrogant in a way that hardly any of the other drivers are, which makes him stick out. (The majority of the others are really nice). His competitive streak with Rosberg brings out a nasty streak that isn't necessarily in the best interests of the team. Its good to be competitive, but its being a dick with it that upsets people (eg, Vettel ignoring team orders and over taking Weber a couple of seasons ago. Vettel, doesn't tend to do it all the time like Hamilton though).

Hamilton also acts in a very brash American kind of way with his arrogance and little modesty. This is something that doesn't go down terribly well with the British public. Or indeed press. (The papers like to knock anyone who gets an ego off their pedestal - see the England football team).

Maybe the Daily Mail have taken a dislike to him because he's black. I personally don't think that's the case tbh. I think they have more picked up on the undertones that he's not liked by the British Public so they can cash in on this and so are reflecting that dislike as much as they are creating it.

Being a dick is not related to your race as far as I'm concerned. There are white and black dicks.

I do have to say, one of the things I do like about F1, is you tend to support a driver regardless of your nationality and their nationality. Its quite borderless in that sense.

Number3cometome · 14/04/2015 14:08

I don't agree that the champagne represents their dicks.

Unless the men all like spunking over each other too?

It's just a celebration, don't think too much in to it.

And yes, I like Lewis, but he is a prat at times - it annoys me immensely that he cannot stand respectfully whilst Rosberg is interviewed.
He chats to the person in 3rd position whilst 2nd is being interview every time!

Oh and he is a bit curt with the race team on the radio - he does himself no favours in that respect.

But would I be like that if I was mega rich? Hell yes, i'd be the most arrogant prick on the planet.

The80sweregreat · 14/04/2015 15:35

I dont like him, but surely she must have known what to expect being on that podium!

emotionsecho · 14/04/2015 17:05

Number3 I agree with your points about how rude and disrespectful Lewis is during interviews and press conferences with other drivers present, he shows a distinct lack of manners every time. It is also telling that he has had difficulties with all his team mates in every team he has driven for, suggests the problem is with him and his attitude.
