My husband will be 50 next month and I'd like to buy him a 'proper' watch. He has not shown a huge amount of interest in watches and he is often the one with a cheap Casio while his peers have more grown up Swiss watches!

I have seen this watch and I'd love to hear from anyone on here who knows something about watches. I understand that Tudor watches are made in the same factory as Rolex watches, even using the same craftsmen and the same machines. I cannot afford £5,000+ for a Rolex but I can afford this watch. What do you think? Please help me to decide before someone else buys it.

Not sure I'd buy a Rolx on eBay, the fakes are very very good and hard to tell from genuine unless you really know what you're doing.

psyandsoc · 13/04/2015 16:03

Go for it. If it's genuine it's a bargain. I'd love to buy one for my dh . Good luck hope you get it.

I wouldn't bother getting him a watch at all tbh if he isn't interested in them. It doesn't matter what anyone else is wearing on their wrists really and I am sure his Casio watch tells the time just as well as the Rolex/Tag Heuer/Breitlings out there. I appreciate that it is a significant birthday for him and it is lovely that you want to and are able to do something special for him, I just don't think spending a lot of money on something he has little to no interest in is the right way to go.

That's a rediculous amount of money to be spending on something he's not interested in. Buy him something he would enjoy. Sounds like its you that's uncomfortable with him wearing a cheap watch, or is it for bragging rights?

Tryharder · 13/04/2015 16:22

A good watch is a nice present even for the disinterested but you would be making a huge mistake to buy it on eBay or Amazon. In all likelihood it will be counterfeit. Sellers ship them in in their hundreds from Hong Kong and they come complete with fake guarantee certificate and expensive looking box.

Tryharder · 13/04/2015 16:23

Sorry, meant to add that I have seen them. I work in a Customs related industry and see this sort of thing all the time.

Mrsbird311 · 13/04/2015 16:41

I wouldn't buy this on eBay but have you thought about a pre loved Rolex you can a lot more watch for your money, not sure about other areas but there a lot of shops in bond St London who sell these, I love 2nd hand jewels so much more for your money

viva100 · 13/04/2015 16:49

Don't buy it off ebay. You would be surprised to know how many fakes are out there (complete with certificates etc). I agree with you that a watch is a good idea though. I bought one for my DP even though he didn't really seem interested and he absolutely loves it. And was very proud when someone at work noticed it and commented on it ;)

Mirandamilly · 13/04/2015 17:00

Thank you all for your advice. I am very tempted by this watch as it is so much less that the equivalent one with Rolex written on it. I will ask the seller for the serial number and check that with Tudor/Rolex to confirm authenticity.

I like the idea of being able to buy my husband something that might provide him with some enjoyment for the rest of his life. I'm not too worried about bragging rights!
