where i live under 16s can swim for free in any pool in the borough. but my son wants to go swimming outside of the borough so it would cost money. about 4.50. i can afford it but i think why should i pay when he can swim for free....am i just being a cow :/

It seems silly to me to pay the money when you don't have to. Could he pay it himself?

deana4 · 11/04/2015 22:10

why does he want to go swimming out the borough? is it a one off or regular thing?

Only1scoop · 11/04/2015 22:12

Different borough different rules.

Yabu

manchestermummy · 11/04/2015 22:15

How old is he? He either pays himself, or you say no, surely?

Mabelface · 11/04/2015 22:16

Is the other pool more fun? If so, let him.

ghostspirit · 11/04/2015 22:16

thats not what its about scoop its about paying when i dont need to. if he stays in borough

Why does he want to go to a different pool?

wheresthelight · 11/04/2015 22:20

depends why he is going to another borough really. if it's just for a change then yanbu, if it's because he is going with friends and they all live in the other borough then yabu

MisForMumNotMaid · 11/04/2015 22:21

If he has any discretionary money of his own could he pay for it himself?

With my DC i'd probably make a contribution but not pay the full amount to test if they really wanted the, in my normal circumstance, more expensive thing than offered.

TheRealMaryMillington · 11/04/2015 22:23

If its a one-off because there's a slide or something, or because he and his mates are going on a trip, then what's the harm?

Or is the out of borough pool closer?

Hulababy · 11/04/2015 22:24

Why does he want to go outside the borough?
Is it because he wants to swim with friends who live there? Or is it a fun/leisure pool which offers something more?

Depends on the reason really.

Brandysnapper · 11/04/2015 22:24

You are leaving out facts we would need to know in order to judge your reasonableness or otherwise.

ghostspirit · 11/04/2015 22:25

no idea why he wants to go to a different pool. his friends are not going and there are 3 or 4 pools he can choose that are free

OP posts:
ghostspirit · 11/04/2015 22:26

brandy what did you want to know

OP posts:
wheresthelight · 11/04/2015 22:32

have you asked him?

if his friends aren't going then it is probably about a girl Grin

assuming he gets pocket money make him pay

Brandysnapper · 11/04/2015 22:37

He needs to be able to provide a reason for wanting this pool! Not knowing your son, now can he judge? Maybe he fancies a girl who goes to the other pool. Maybe some local kids bully him at the free pools . Maybe one has a great diving board. You need to somehow get him to communicate with you more to see if it is at all worth the money .

Brandysnapper · 11/04/2015 22:37

How can we judge, not he

Gileswithachainsaw · 11/04/2015 22:41

depends on the reason. is the pool any good? making him use a dirty or badly maintained pool when he doesn't have to would be U.

If it's fine then Yanbu.

If it's a one off and he just fancies a change yabu

Gileswithachainsaw · 11/04/2015 22:47

And also depends on what this other pool offered. does he actually want to swim properly and your local pool is full of swimming lessons all the time and the leisure pool is not really for actual swimming?

or is your regular pool just a boring g pool and he wants turn on some slides and fun stuff.

Both fair enough reasons to want try somewhere new tbh
