...you should take it with you when you visit someone's house?

Friend of a friend seems scandalised that I don't have any. I've never heard of it. No rose, but white, red, gin, vodka, lots of lovely soft drinks and mixers.

Gin galore, gorgeous glasses, ice made out of lime juice and frozen blueberrys.

I'd never complain. I'd take a drink for myself and take the host something. Feck all but a sour face.

I could have popped the shops in the time it's taken me to google what it is and write this. I'm feeling evil so I won't.

Is it fantastic? Am I missing out?

Your guest is rude, but so are you.

I agree. Leaving a social thing you are hosting to bitch about a guest on social media is really rude and nasty.

I've hadn't heard of it either. I my world, guests accept what they are offered. If I know someone has a particular fondness for something, I would try and get it, but it's just rude to complain.

drbadbride · 11/04/2015 21:18

Darn it. So if I have a little girl one day, I will have to call her Puligny Montrachet instead? Grin

Allalonenow · 11/04/2015 21:18

Just keep taking the medicine Derek you will be fine Smile

comeagainforbigfudge · 11/04/2015 21:19

Guest is bad mannered. I recall being very pregnant and hosting a meal for neighbours when we had literally just moved into a lovely area but our house was a wreck. They turned up all 8 of them, all older than us with lovely renovated homes, knowing we had a lot too do, with all their own choices of drinks. We were young and had bought white wine red wine beer etc. this was years ago and they made no fuss just racked up with loads of stuff so they all got what they wanted and we weren't embarrased. My beef bourginone was a massive hit. They are all ageing now, our babies are older, we still remember and enjoy those days. P.S. One wife brought her own champagne as she rightly said, "I'm a nightmare on white wine, a snob about red, but know I can do a bottle of this without being a disaster" . I was not upset or anything. It was a fab start to a great neighbourhood. On another note SiL is an ABC girl. She only drinks Pinot and is really arsey about you if you drink Chardonnay, which I love . If you like something special take it with you.

Lilylonglegs · 11/04/2015 21:25

I used to love white zindafel but I've really gone off it now. Its so sweet it taste like Ribena, I'm strictly Malbec now, until I get my teeth cleaned, then no red at all.

Sunbury1986 · 11/04/2015 21:27

Just to clarify ABC is anything but Chardonnay, I had no idea what she meant when she said this years ago. I must admit I'm not a spirit drinker but if im on a long haul type day event party I always take small Bacardi and a large bottle of diet coke. I'd never expect it to be there. White Zinfandel...wouldn't expect it . Pour yourself a nice big gin with your lovely ice cubes, lots of tonic and be thankful you won't have a hangover frame shitty sulphites in cheap wine ??

Janethegirl · 11/04/2015 21:32

Surely everyone has at least one or 20 -30 single malts available for consumption Grin

IHaveBrilloHair · 11/04/2015 21:37

I hate wine to drink, and only use it in cooking, the only alcohol I really like is cheap lager, Carlsberg/ Fosters and similar.
I wouldn't expect anyone to stock it, I am quite happy drinking water, but I would take my own lager if ir was appropriate to do so.

IHaveBrilloHair · 11/04/2015 21:40

Oh, and I don't mean I'd drink water in a pained way, or be rude, but I rarely drink anything other than tea, water or lager.

bananayellow · 11/04/2015 21:41

I was about to ask what an ABC girl is. Grin

MillionToOneChances · 11/04/2015 21:44

If she feels that strongly about it, she should have brought some!

Sunbury1986 · 11/04/2015 21:45

*from shitty sulphites NOT frame BTW.

thenightsky · 11/04/2015 21:49

I've never understood why it's called white zinfandel when it is actually rose. Confused

Offer a tub of Ben & Jerry's caramel chew-chew ice cream instead. Same dessert level of sweetness.

Only1scoop · 11/04/2015 21:50

Ugh I had a friend who used to call it Zinfandale Confused

It's truly foul

LadyCatherineDeTurd · 11/04/2015 21:53

Rose is an increasingly popular drink in summer and has been for a few years now, so if I were hosting guests on a warm April day I'd probably get some in. She was still being rude though. As a guest, you choose something from what's on offer and graciously thank your host. Anyone who only drinks one thing, whatever it is, either takes their own or accepts the possibility of being beverageless.

NickNackNooToYou · 11/04/2015 21:54

You sound like a fab host, your guest needs striking off any future guest lists.

I always take plenty of drink and I bloody love gin...I'll be round in 10 OP with no white shit

??????

Only1scoop · 11/04/2015 21:55

I have some gorgeous rose in for the summer....

White Zinfandel does not come into said catergory.

Vijac · 11/04/2015 21:57

How rude. Think if keep her as a friend of a friend!

ImperialBlether · 11/04/2015 22:03

Please can I see a photo of your glasses?

LadyCatherineDeTurd · 11/04/2015 22:05

OP didn't have any rose at all though. Personally, I like the Aldi three quid a bottle job.

Marcelinewhyareyousomean · 11/04/2015 22:58

They have gone.

Busted, I WAS bitchy and neglectful. It wasn't an elegant soirée, more of a last minute DooDah with a friend.

F of F got on my last nerve. It may be what everyone is drinking but I've never heard of it. I've never heard of ABC either. Had Chardonnay BTW.

I can't link on my phone. I was using speakeasy gin glasses, which are big wine goblets that are almost spheres.

I thought when a guest arrived you offer them red or white and they choose and they bloody well drink what variety of their choice they are given
