To freeze the cake?

Just had little party for ds birthday. He's 2. Anyway party over and we forgot about the cake!

Dh says freeze for next year? You can't freeze cake for a year can you?? Would normally eat it but we are on a health kick so can't do that.

Most guests live far away so not much opportunity to dole it out.

Ideas? Freeze for a year????

You can't freeze it once it's iced

freeze it for next year?? don't be ridiculous!

eat the cake! health kick or not.

CrystalCove · 11/04/2015 16:46

No, I wouldn't think that would work. I freeze undecorated cakes for up to a few months but icing doesn't freeze well I don't think.

Throw it away? If you really don't want to eat it (and I get that) then maybe break it up, and bring your little one to a park where he could feed the ducks?

It wont keep for a year in the freezer, so unless you want to make some sort of a tradition of using the same cake every year (and never eating it) then you may just as well throw it out now.

What type of icing?
Butter icing freezes fine, but a year is a bit too long.
I'd cut it into pieces, freeze most, and let your boy have a piece occasionally - its great if you take it out of the freezer about an hour in advance. If its butter icing, you can also microwave, and serve with icecream - like chocolate fudge cakes in the pub sort of idea, the icing all melts.

Freeze it in small slices then take them out one at a time to fit with your health kick?

Rightokthen · 11/04/2015 16:50

It's just a supermarket cake. Not buttercream I don't think, well it is on the inside. Thomas and friends cake

Haha I don't know why I told you it's a thomas cake. I doubt that would make a difference.....
Can I cut it up and freeze bits of it?

Yes zebra that's what I'm going with I think....

Yes. Don't know what will happen to the fondant icing on the top tho.

FreshsatsumaforDd · 11/04/2015 16:57

I have sliced cakes first then frozen them. Take out one or two slices at a time. Worked really well!

TheSpottedZebra · 11/04/2015 17:34

The fondant icing will probably get a bit sticky and maybe a bit blotchy but it will taste fine and be fine to eat.

Thanks everyone! We've eaten hd of thomas and the other half has gone to next door neighbours. Thanks for the advice Grin
