To ask about your experience of group b strep in subsequent pregnancies

Sorry, looking for a wider audience.

My hospital has a policy that is you were group b strep positive in one pregnancy you get antibiotics in all subsequent labours, no further testing.

This is against most advice online and even the leaflet they gave me.

Can I ask what happened to others? Is this common, I've found quite different policies online. I'm a little down to face another grimlabour ward birth rather than the birth centre.

Just to say, I did take the antibiotics etc and had them during my section and he still fell poorly. However, if I'd have known I had group b strep and not had the antibiotics, I would have forever beaten myself up over it. As things were, I knew everything had been done to minimise any risk to him x

I had a GBS + baby, who was an EMCS. After 8 days in SCBU with septicemia, we were discharged. I had all the classic symptoms whilst in labour and the hospital were very hot on testing so it was picked up on very quickly.

I had IV antibiotics for #2 (natural delivery) and none for #3 who was an elective CS. I was told I would have a 90% chance of a GBS+ baby in subsequent natural deliveries, but the rusk was significantly lowered with elective cs's as your waters aren't broken per se.
