to be confused about droopy eyelid following eye test?

Last month I had an eye test and as it finished ( no glasses required ) and I started to drive home my right eye suddenly dropped, probably to above half way.
It was confusing however my husband said it was probably just a reaction to the eye exam, and my the next day it was much better and after 2 days completely normal.
I mentioned it to the optition today when I took my son for his check up and she worried me as said she had never heard of this happening after an eye exam.
Twitching etc yes but not a dropped eyelid which lasted 2 days.
Now I'm worried it was something more serious, Bell's palsy / brain tumour / stroke are amongst various things that had popped up when I've searched it on the internet although surely if it was any of those it would have been more servere, the whole right side or wouldn't have corrected itself?
I get awful headaches, have done for years and had a scan about 12 years ago for them but clear.
Just confused to what it could be as seems a co incidence it was after the eye exam and never before / since!

see the doctor quickly! hope it is nothing but better be safe than sorry.

Confusedmartie999 · 10/04/2015 23:04

I did call the doctor a week after it happened and they spoke to me over the phone and said it seemed like a muscle spasm if it had resolved itself!

Could it have been mild ptosis?

Confusedmartie999 · 11/04/2015 07:35

Yes that's what I thought
Surely if it was something serious it wouldn't have gone away?

I've never heard of that either (I'm an optician). You would have other symptoms if you had any of the other conditions you mentioned.

A condition called Myesthenia Gravis (MG) causes a temporary droopy lid, but again you would have other symptoms.

Dognado - ptosis just means droopy eyelid so yes it was a ptosis.

I suspect it was also a blepharospasm - (so a muscle spasm), but I also saw an article about a droopy eyelid after a local anaesthetic was used called lignocaine. We sometimes use that before using a probe on the eye that measures pressure.
Eye pressure is often determined initially using a puff of air, but if that reading is high, we use the probe method.

You'd probably remember having that done as the drops sting as they go in.

Confusedmartie999 · 11/04/2015 09:12

Hi,
No I didn't have any drops just the puff of air.
No I didn't have any other symptoms and it got better over 2 days.
I do have bad headaches generally which is why I'm worrying and mini strokes etc seem to be coming up when I look it up!
Could it just have been the focus made the eye tired which caused a spasm?
The eye test was done twice as inconclusive the first time so I wonder if it was just tired and had some sort of spasm or is that not possible?

Its very unlikely to be a mini-stoke as the upper eye lid muscle nerve is associated with some of the muscles that control the movement of the eye. So you would get double vision if that was the case (unless you have a lazy eye?)

Still worth getting your cholesterol level and blood pressure checked though.

Confusedmartie999 · 11/04/2015 13:42

Ah okay no double vision just the eyelid problem and then a few weeks after I was very dizzy and just felt generally really unwell for a few days but I was on antibiotics for a tooth infection so again didn't think much of it.
Guess I'm worrying now as the headaches are making me feel quite sick

An optician is usually one of the first people to pick up on a tumour aren't they?
I know I'm probably over reacting but the drooping of the eyelid has scared me a bit!

Ahhh, dentists also use lignocaine as a topical anaesthetic, did the density inject anything into your gum?

Yes, brain tumours can show up on funds exams, basically they make the optic nerve swell up.

Sounds like you need a headache clinic referral anyway if you've been getting headaches for 12 years!

Confusedmartie999 · 11/04/2015 17:04

Yes they did but weeks before and after but not at that time.
I will go to my gp Tuesday and see what they have to say.
They said they were stress related tension headaches before :-(

A migraine? Really?
And would they realise within a few days?

Thankyou
I will see the doctor and see what they say but just think it's strange it occurred straight after an eye exam it seems like a co incidence which is why I thought it was the muscle having a spasm at the time
I guess it still could have been that, although I would think it would have taken a shorter amount of time to correct than 2 days if just a spasm / tired eye.

Yes and they did do that light test twice on that eye actually as I had missed so many they didn't know if it was lack of concentration / really bad eyesight.
It was lack of concentration! but maybe that's the reason!
I would never have thought a migraine could cause it but I do remember a headache coming on during the test

These headaches are making me feel feel sick that's my major concern.
Maybe it's just the stress of having children I feel achy and tired a lot even when I haven't done a great deal so that combined with these headaches is worrying me.
It's probably completely my imagination but my right hand and right foot feels more achy than my left!
I'm glad to know a brain tumour is detected in an eye exam so I will try not to worry as no doubt that's not helping me!
Will report back after the gp visit tomorrow

Hi,
The doctor did some tests and all neurological tests he did seemed fine.
He said a stroke nor a tumour would present in a temporary droop of the eyelid which then went away and hasn't returned.
He is quite sure these headaches are migraines :(

Yes I hope iy wasnt, he seemed quite confident but still confused about the eye droop that hasn't returned since!
He suggested some sort of low anti depressant which apparently have been proven to help however they can affect your energy levels and make you very tired which worries me having the kids etc so I've said I'll see how I go over the next month :)
