to think you shouldn't have unexplained pain?

I've had a pain in my right hip for over a day. I've been away on holiday with relatives who are laughing at me being worried - if it was across both sides I'd think stomach bug type thing but it's lower and just on the right.
it's not agony but it is there.
anyone had similar, I'm trying not to worry but it hurts!

I don't know. Tons of people have unexplained pains now and then, don't they? It's just part of life.

It's a bit mean to laugh at you though.

Are you always this worried about aches and twinges, or do you have a medical condition whereby you should be worried this early?

operaha · 10/04/2015 13:42

No not at all, it's just bothering me as its been over 24 hours and it did get quite painful at times yesterday top the point of me having to stop what I was doing.
perhaps it is"one of those things" !

Hmm I often get pains that I can't attribute to anything. Id only worry if it got worse/persisted for a long time. I wouldn't panic straight away, id just assume id pulled something/walked funny/lay funny in bed etc.
I had unexplained pain in my hips and pelvis for over a year, went to all sorts of specialists, had an MRI and still never found the cause! Then I got pregnant and it disappeared, and never came back. Still no idea what it was but assume it can't have been serious!

WorraLiberty · 10/04/2015 13:44

Might be

I'd take a couple of paracetemol and massage it if it was me.

If it's still there in a couple of days, I'd probably make a Doc's appointment if it was really bothering me.

Hope it gets better soon Thanks

operaha · 10/04/2015 13:45

Yes, I need to stop worrying!

I had immense pain in my upper abdoman the other year. So bad I was on the floor in a ball crying every time it came and I literally couldn't move. My mum wanted to call me an ambulance. My DP came home from work to get me to the emergency GP who sent me for a scan thinking there were gallstones stuck in there in a tube. There was nothing so they sent m,e an endoscopy a few days later and gave me medication, still the pain was there. I had the endoscopy where they didn't see anything and took a biopsy of my stomach lining. All came back negative. Then the pain stopped and never came back. The dr said 'sometimes people get pain', that was their explanation!

operaha · 10/04/2015 13:47

I will make an appointment though if it doesn't go in a few days, it's very sharp pain and when it hurts it bloody hurts, most of the time it's mild.
Very odd.

pinkie that sounds horrible! I think something like that did actually happen to me years ago with the same outcome, so I've been here before.

Any chance you have an ovarian cyst and are ovulating at the minute? I get that type of pain a few times a year and the one time that it got so bad I was hospitalised that's what was diagnosed. Hope you feel better soon x

Tanith · 10/04/2015 15:00

My mum had this: turned out to be a hernia.
I'd be inclined to get it checked.

monkeysox · 10/04/2015 15:52

If you get a fever and feel.sick.could be appendix

keepsmiling2015 · 10/04/2015 16:07

Is it accompanied by high temperature or sickness? If not I'd be inclined to think you've pulled something. Could be possible from sleeping in a different bed or walking more than usual - as you're on holiday.

shewept · 10/04/2015 16:50

It depends on how bad it is, whether you need to see someone straight away. If its that bad you can't stand/ have a fever/ throwing up etc you should get it checked

If its just a pain, painful but not crippling...24 hours is not long. If you have injured it in someway, its likely to last a lot more than 24 hours

I thought everyone got random pains then came and went. 24 hours is not really a long time.

Were they laughing because you do this alot? Is it a bit of an 'in joke'?

I have a relative who does this. We don't laugh just roll our eyes. She contacted me to say she was being rushed to hospital because her gp said she HAD (not might have, actually had) pancreatitis. Turned out that, since recently became vegan, the stomach pains were due to a change of diet. Was literally living on nuts. Her dh then told me the doctor had told her it could be lots of things and never said it was pancreatitis. This has gone on for years. So whenever she says she has something serious, no one panics anymore. She even admits she over reacts so its not like we do it behind her back. Its become just one of those things.

Rightokthen · 10/04/2015 16:55

I'd ignore unless it was long term. If it doesn't come back maybe just one of those things.

That's my uneducated opinion
