To think we'll never get a house

We're lucky enough to have saved up a deposit for a house. I know many people can't afford to do that. I'm also pregnant and quite possibly very hormonal about this, and wanting to nest.
We're outer london and there are very, very few houses in our price range. The ones there are are being snapped up in one day (truly). One went on zoopla this morning but I phoned and they said they weren't taking any more viewings for it because they had so many (and will sell it anyway), but it had only been up for a couple of hours. This has happened so many times now, and it's making me feel so, so sad and disheartened.
Please tell me it's going to get better!

It is madness I know.

I would make sure you go and visit the estate agents. In their offices. Make sure they know who you are and that you have a deposit ready and a mortgage agreement in principle (have you got that?).

They will then know you are a serious buyer. What you want is them to phone you as soon as they know about a new house - before it even gets onto Rightmove/Zoopla. Then you can be one of the first to view it.

It is cut throat out there!

I still live with my mum. She has a knack for telling me I will be living at home until I am 35. i want to be married with my first child in 5 years, and I cant' afford to do it.

it's getting to the point where i don't care if it's a private rented house. DM is toxic as hell. it's hard, especially when you're a first time buyer.

Thanks for replies. You're right about going into offices. The problem is there are so many estate agents. I've phoned for countless houses and not once phoned the same branch or office (and apparently they don't share details with the branch in the next district). And then each branch may only have one home (on its books for a couple of hours) in our range within the space of a month.

I use Zoopla smart search. oh I can dream

There will be something out there, keep looking. go to the estate agents where the houses in the window look nice, go in and see what they can do. haggle the price!

The estate agents might actually have more than one suitable house each month, but the others are probably not making the open market if the market is very buoyant. You really do need to register with all agents in the area of interest so that they can contact you as soon as they take a house on. If you don't register then the people who have registered will keep getting to know about the houses before you and they will be sold STC before you have Even found out about them.

You really do need to go round and register with the branches. That way you'll find out about houses before they go on to Zoopla.
