To be bemused that ds lunch and tea was the same at nursery?

Ds started nursery today. He was happy when I picked him up. I watched through the window for a few minutes when i dropped him off and collected him and he looked like he wad enjoying himself. So I am happy that he feels comfortable in the setting.

But upon speaking to a staff member she told me that he had beans on toast for lunch and beans on toast for tea aswell! This didn't really register until i got home, and now to be honest I am a bit miffed!

Plus a full pack of wipes and his favourite teddy which I sent him with were missing from his bag. I know i should have checked! Silly of me. I can understand these things happening but beans on toast twice in one day?!

I am going to raise this tomorrow but thought I would canvas opinions in the meantime.

I find that very bad. And beans on toast is hardly the most well-balanced meal (I know it's fine enough in its way, but definitely not twice in one day). How old is he?

Sirzy · 09/04/2015 21:45

Have you seen their menus?

I would question it, it may be a one off but no harm checking

tryingtocatchthewind · 09/04/2015 21:47

That is very odd. The wipes and teddy going missing, happens all the time just ask tomorrow theyll be there. But beans on toast twice is odd and not right

My initial thought would be to wonder if the staff member was distracted when telling you/writing it in his book. Seems unlikely, maybe a one off if there were kitchen problems, possibly.

Tbh I would wait and see what happens tomorrow rather than raise it. The wipes may be labelled with his name to be left there? (Fairly common practice). Also re the teddy, at our nursery the dcs left a favourite toy there (not an absolute irreplaceable favourite of course)

Be kind to yourself, first day at nursery is a big day for you and him, it's great he enjoyed it.

He is two, so cant ask him. Sample menus look fine on website and handbook.

Sounds like the staff member was just distracted and repeating herself. Wipes are probably going to be left there. Always check you have everything you need before you leave.

icelollycraving · 09/04/2015 21:56

I suspect it was a mistake in their handover rather than what he actually ate.
Check with the team,if it was correct you can point out the difference between their menu & the reality. If it's a settling in time could it be he wouldn't eat one of the planned meals?

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 09/04/2015 21:57

I'd double check that she hadn't just said the same thing twice by mistake.

Hulababy · 10/04/2015 08:37

I would suspect it was a mistake when she was telling you. Certainly not the norm ime.

Wipes may well have been left in a tub with his name on in the changing area perhaps? That was the case in both nurseries DD went too.

Check for teddy tomorrow - it should be there. Must ave been forgotten.

CobbOnn · 10/04/2015 08:50

I wouldn't mind if my DS had been given the same thing twice, as long as he bloody eats something. Does sound like a mistake though. Also, he will probably had snacks of fruit and yogurt throughout the day, so will have had more variety.

I personally think the quality of the feedback from nursery is great, considering how busy the staff must be. I get the occasional mistake on the diary sheet, but is always cleared up easily enough.

Mention it.

I dropped my DS off the other day, he'd been sick in the car so I used their changing station to change him. I saw his own labelled baskets, coat hook, lots of personalised things. Made me feel really happy- that he belongs there. I would think that your DS will have his own things too.

When mine went to nursery there was a bolded note in the information pack saying NOT to send children in with toys or teddies as staff can't take responsibility for these things. Hope you get it back, but with umpteen other children there anyone could have taken it to play with/home by mistake. Hopefully they'll let you rummage through the toys to look for it.

DearGirl · 10/04/2015 09:01

Nappies and wipes put in children's bags generally get put in their baskets with their nappy creams etc they will let you know when they need more.

Ask about teddy

Beans on toast for tea but probably not for lunch too - tea is generally something like that as the nursery nurses have to do tea whereas lunch the cook will be there and will have made large meals to cater for larger number of children
