to not go on a speed awareness course

sPJPPp · 08/04/2015 09:51

The course will be 97 and the fine is 100.

I would get three points and my insurance will go up by about 40 next year.

The course is 2 hours drive away and will take 4 hours. So the best part of a day taken away.

Aibu to just take the points as 40 to loose a day off is just not enough.

There is a lot of pearl clutching going on here.

Really OP, do what you want to do. I would probably take the course and swallow 2 hours of their patronising bullshit just to avoid the 3 points - there are so many speed cameras out there now I would be concerned about getting another 3 within the 3 years and then seeing a real hike in my insurance.

But if you prefer to pay the find then why not? In some ways paying the fine is better than lining the pockets of the mobile camera operators that run these courses.

Sparklingbrook · 09/04/2015 15:16

OP has flounced eyebags.

eyebags63 · 09/04/2015 15:16

I notice there is only one other person in the whole 12 pages here that is honest enough to admit they speed, by choice.

Everybody else sticks to the speed limit or below always. Yeah ok. HmmHmm

Fudgeface123 · 09/04/2015 15:17

You have received a letter to attend a speed awareness course, no-one is assuming anything, this letter proves it.

You are the worst kind of driver, won't admit that you're wrong, keep making excuses but the fact is you were driving without due care and attention. If you drive that many miles per year then you should know everything there is to know about the rules of the road, speed limits on various roads etc.

I hope to God that one day when you're not paying enough attention that no-one else is a victim of your carelessness

Snottybiyatch · 09/04/2015 15:29

Et tu eyebags????

Speeding/not speeding is NOT the issue. OP is not being criticised for this. Many many other people on this thread have admitted to speeding (including me) by dint of the fact that they are sharing their experience of the course or just plain admitting it. So not sure where you got the 'just one' from. I note that OP has now decided not to take the course: I have no problem with that either (though s/he might have benefitted from it) as s/he has made the decision on a cost/time effectiveness basis and does indeed have the choice.

In fact Fudgeface ^ is one of the few who has been critical of the OP's driving at all. I wouldn't go that far though s/he may have a point

Bangs head against wall.

Stinkersmum · 09/04/2015 16:36

eyebags I speed. Knowingly. And without shame. Not everywhere. Not through 30s. Not in residential areas. But on motorways, empty 60/70 roads? Yep.

ljwales · 09/04/2015 17:29

Wow at all the pearl clutches! Yanbu not to do it, I did it and it was so awful and patronising I would never do it again. Anything useful could be condensed into a single leaflet.

My friend didn't do it on my advice and her insurance went down! Its really not worth it to save 13 quid.

Snottybiyatch · 09/04/2015 17:36

Okay I really am going to have to hide this thread after this

Wow at all the pearl clutches

Nobody is pearl clutching. Most people (other than the OP) are cheerfully owning up to not being the best drivers in the world. The only shock horror is at the breathtaking arrogance demonstrated.

My friend didn't do it on my advice and her insurance went down!

Yes but she's got three points on her licence. Not a good look really.

Sparklingbrook · 09/04/2015 17:37

Snotty I think I will hide it too, and await the OPs next thread with interest....

ilovesooty · 09/04/2015 17:42

I'm rather glad the OP isn't doing the course. She's incapable of understanding or reflecting on other perspectives and she'll just be wasting the time of the trainers and the other participants with her attitude.

Snottybiyatch · 09/04/2015 17:42

Fancy joining me on a Sunday afternoon drive at 25mph both wearing huge hats and hogging the middle of the road Sparkling?

ljwales · 09/04/2015 17:43

Ooh three points on your licence, scary.

Its like being back at school where the teachers always threaten something could go on your "permanent record". When actually its virtually meaningless.

3 points every 15 years is nothing to worry about at all.

The people being arrogant are the ones saying the op shouldn't e on the road and driving, just because she describes herself as a good driver despite one speeding ticket.

Nanny13 · 09/04/2015 17:45

100 for the privilege and 'losing' a day!!!!

If you wasn't speeding, then it wouldn't be happening!

You do the crime, you do the time!!!!!

ilovesooty · 09/04/2015 17:45

What about job advertisements specifying full clean driving licence?

Snottybiyatch · 09/04/2015 17:48

Minus2seventy3 · 09/04/2015 17:50

a good driver does not speed
Is the air a bit thin up there on that high horse? Plenty of drivers speed, good and bad. Plenty of drivers stick to the limits, good and bad. Some, like I, are happy in their hypocrisies: if there's a roundel with a number on it, I'll be at (or below, should conditions dictate) that number. All bets are off once one passes an NSL sign (again, as conditions dictate).

Snottybiyatch · 09/04/2015 17:50

But as long as I'm still here...you're spitting into the windSooty old heart. Doncha know that some people with three or even more points keep it in a polythene holder so it's BEEEEEYOOOOOTIFULLY clean!

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 09/04/2015 17:51

It really is gang mentality in here. boo-bloody-hoo

Only when goady fuckery is suspected.

some tickets are in spots well known for just being a money grabber. there's one down in Portsmouth where you need to speed up to join a fast a road. loads of people get caught there.
and no. i haven't.
people felt they'd been used/ hard done by and went to the driving course day and said they hadn't learnt anything they didn't already know.
which I suppose you wouldn't, if you felt toys been conned/ tricked in the first place.

MamainMilan · 09/04/2015 18:03

The people being arrogant are the ones saying the op shouldn't be on the road and driving

ljwales Go on then also curses self for not hiding thread point me to them. Where on the thread are all these posts saying that the OP shouldn't be on the road?

While you're at it, I'll have a look at these 'pearl-clutching' posts you refer to. It's a neat MN phrase, but a bit pointless when y'know, no-one's actually clutching any pearls.

You have either not read the thread, or you seemingly just want to deliberately misrepresent what it's about.

zfactor · 09/04/2015 18:04

It's not about whether a 'good' driver speeds or not; it's the being caught as that suggests that you weren't being observant which further suggests you're not safe to drive at speed (as what else might you just not notice?).

(now off to bang head against wall - perhaps drivers also need to pass some kind of IQ test?!)

ahbollocks · 09/04/2015 18:08

Op has massive form for goady threads, although its usually food based.
I scarcely remember who posts what but this one sticks
