Neighbour issue

Just want to check what you think about this scenario - we live in the burbs fairly quiet area - our house has large garden but loads of trees . We gave dd aged 12 a trampoline for her birthday and only place it will fit is at side of our garden next to neighbours low ish fence . Neighbour has dd similar age to ours and we have said to her parents. she can use it whenever she fancies if she likes . Neighbour has had complete hissy fit because of where we have sited the trampoline - apparently it is noisy . She has decided we are a noisy family because we have used a chain saw x2 in 3 years to cut up logs .they have a dog that barks almost continuously which drives us and rest of street bonkers but we have not complained in interests of good neighbourly relations . Feeling very sad as hate falling out with people but so shocked to be spoken to aggressively by neighbour and now feeling angry too as it has taken away the pleasure of dd birthday pressie AIBU and WWYD?
Can't sleep as fretting about it :(

I never minded the trampoline next door when the child was young but now she is a teenager it is quite uncomfortable to be in the garden and seeing her face every two seconds, my teenage son will not got out if he hears the springs. Theirs is hidden from their house as well just on view to the two neighbours. I would never say anything as it is the compromise of not being able to afford a home in the middle of nowhere.

OK so its not by the house so its not the noise that is the real issue, its that its an ugly eyesore that provides your DD ample opportunity to look over into their garden. Im not saying your daughter is actually looking at them, but when she is bouncing up and down they may feel like they are being watched IYSWIM. She might only be doing it half an hour a day, but the risk of being watched while in their own garden is constant. She could fancy a bounce at any time.

I personally HATE those big trampolines. They are dangerous, take up half of the garden, and look hideous. I wouldn't have one in my garden and wouldn't like one shoved up against my low fence for me to look at. I'm glad my neighbour's children are all grown up.

Move the trampoline! Cut down a tree to accommodate it if necessary. The noise of springs and intrusion on their privacy is disrespectful. I would hate it of my neighbour did this, I don't want someone else's kid bouncing next to my fence and looking into my garden! How can your neighbours relax and enjoy their garden if your DD is on trampoline?

Their noisy dog is a separate issue.

Pipsqueak11 · 08/04/2015 10:58

There is no issue re privacy , it is at bottom of their garden where their compost bin things are and not their sitting area - their complaint is purely noise related . It has a black net thing all around it so even when bouncing dd can't see over the top of it .

It's your garden and you're perfectly within your rights to have the trampoline wherever you like in it!!

Your neighbour sounds like one of those people that likes to be awkward for the sake of it.

Bounce away & chill out!!

Thanks all - off on hols now. Will think about it whilst away.

Our neighbours have a trampoline at the bottom of their garden.

It looks directly over our garden and the kids say hello to the dog every time they jump up and down. It drives him bonkers as he wants to join in!

If we want to sit in the garden we will have them intruding on our privacy and our peace and quiet.

I just don't care enough to be bothered by it. They are good neighbours, that is worth much more than any downside to the trampoline.

Thanks everyone for your perspective ( apart from any fucker)!!

She's right though...

MrsFlannel · 08/04/2015 15:37

Sink it. Then it won't be quite as overtaking as it is.

Meechimoo · 08/04/2015 15:37

I'm seriously impressed at those of you with non screaming, non shrieking children on trampolines. Mine were utterly incapable despite several thousand reminders and being removed from the trampoline several hundred times. Hence no more feckin trampolines in our garden again ever ever ever.

One of our neighbours had a trampoline in the garden behind us. The squeaking springs were the least annoying bit. The constant squealing of the children was ear piercing and their dog barked constantly when they were on the trampoline. Not sure wtf they didn't shut the dog in the house when the kids were on the trampoline and the Dad shouted constantly at the dog to shut up Hmm.
Thankfully they seem to have dismantled said trampoline Smile

I think it is probably the dog that is the issue, in response to the trampoline. Can't see how a quiet child on a trampoline that far from the house can be that annoying. Their dog needs some sort of therapy.
