To wish sweaty teenagers in park would shut up?

It's really warm and sunny here today. Loca park was very busy, and loads of teens in there.

Shouting across the park at each other "fuck you you dirty fucking ho" " fuck off cunt" at the tops of their voices. Dd asked me why they kept saying rude words and what did they mean.

I have brought up 3 teens. None would have behaved like that. I swear all the time too, but not loudly across a child's playground. Would you complain to the school? It was really awful

What school could you complain to? You don't know which one they go to, or indeed whether they go to any school at all. Besides, they're not responsible for what their pupils do in the school holidays.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 07/04/2015 17:28

No point in complaining, how'd they be identified for starters.

WorraLiberty · 07/04/2015 17:29

The school???

No, I would have gone over and asked them to stop swearing or move away.

AnxiousWreck · 07/04/2015 17:30

No. It wouldn't be worth it.

Even if the school knew exactly who is was, they can't discipline them for behaviour off the school premises. They can "talk" to them, but most schools probably wouldn't bother.

It's a shame, but I'd just forget about it and hope that the shock value wears off for them soon and they grow out of it. Everyone does.

SurlyCue · 07/04/2015 17:30

Video them and post it on FB asking all your friends to share. Their parents might see it.

Orangeanddemons · 07/04/2015 17:32

Well, there's only one school in the area. So it could only be one. I work in a secondary school. When we get complaints like this, they are usually picked up tbh.

I wish I'd said something to them, but was being nagged to death for ice cream at the time

I complained to a school about girls in uniform swearing on the bus which had picked them up from the stop right outside.
The following days they were very much quieter.
it lasted about a week :(

SurlyCue · 07/04/2015 17:35

My local police force have a FB page and are really involved in the community, very approachable, i would probably send them the video and let them decide if anything needed done. It is antisocial behaviour isnt it?

Orangeanddemons · 07/04/2015 17:38

Well, I didn't video them, but I could do the Facebook thing. It was definitely anti social behaviour

Yep you could, dont be afraid to describe what they were wearing or looked like so as they are identifiable by anyone that knows them. I would want to know if it were my dcs.

cricketballs · 07/04/2015 17:56

sally - the school could get involved in your situation as they were wearing uniform and therefore representing the school

Sallyingforth · 07/04/2015 17:59

Yes cricket I do understand that.

shoofly · 07/04/2015 18:02

Seriously? Can you not just ask them to tone it down? They're teenagers, not something from another planet. I've had this and politely mentioned it to the worst offender who has then blushed and got their mates to shut up. Usually with an apology and a 'Oi watch your mouth, little kids around' - shouted to their mates.

TheWitTank · 07/04/2015 18:11

Had this in the local shop the other day with a group of teenage boys who had just got off the school bus. I had popped in with my two primary school age children for an ice cream on the walk home. Had to listen to "fuck off you cunt!" then a load of shouting and laughing about blow jobs. Delightful. I was in the line with at least two other mums with little children who the boys clearly saw when they came in. Ah, the showing off age. I remember it well.

Goodbetterbest · 07/04/2015 18:20

'Tone it down, eh?'

I have in the past just asked them to mind their language. I ask nicely and usually get a shrug or an eye roll. DH gets v annoyed, asks crossly, and usually gets an apology.

HarrietSchulenberg · 07/04/2015 18:37

I have asked teenagers not to swear in front of my children when they were smaller, and they were usually very obliging. One girl took it upon herself to hiss, "Fucking shuddup, there's little kids over there" everytime her mates swore, for the rest of the afternoon. It made me smile.

Unfortunately I hear that my eldest boy (14) has been guilty of swearing loudly in public. I know he does it because he thinks it makes him look harder so other kids won't pick on him, but I'd be mortified if I actually heard him. He knows my views but is of the opinion that he can do what he likes when he's out of my earshot, and the more fuss I make about it the more attractive a pasttime it becomes.

That said, there are many times that he doesn't swear but he and his mates still get told to shift by parents who don't like black clad teenagers hanging around and making the park look untidy Sad.

ComfortingCwtch · 07/04/2015 18:40

I've usually found them to agree to not swear in front of children when asked. They are teenagers not an unreasonable alien species/

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 07/04/2015 18:57

Can't for the life of me fathom out what them being sweaty has to do with anythingConfused
Yes I fully agree it doesn't sound nice, but how do you find out the school they go to, and while they're on holiday it's not the schools responsibility nor at anytime really when they're not at school.
Also you say you've reared 3 teens who would never behave like. Can I Ask how you are 100% certain of this were you with them 24/7.

MrsDermotOLeary · 07/04/2015 19:00

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost I think op meant sweary not sweaty

PunkrockerGirl · 07/04/2015 19:02

I wondered that too, Ilive but I assume it was a typo and should have said 'sweary' Smile (My autocorrect changed that to sweaty)!!

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 07/04/2015 19:04
