Hotpoint repair plan

A word of advice to anyone thinking of taking out one of these - perhaps think twice! Our Hotpoint dishwasher has been in its death throes for about 4 years. Their repair men come out time and time again to patch it up, (meaning someone has to take a day off work) even though the time has clearly come, according to their policy, to replace it. On Thursday evening, after their engineer 'repaired' the machine yet again, we came down to find the kitchen flooded, and the entire contents of the cupboard beneath it ruined, as something, somewhere hadn't been connected. When I phoned first thing this morning (after the bank holiday closure) to ask for an emergency engineer, they casually told me that they have no engineers free today, but they will send someone 'at some point' tomorrow. They were unconcerned, bullish, and put me firmly in my place, even though, with the dishwasher switched off, there is still something dripping into the cupboard underneath, so they have clearly damaged other pipework...

We have 3 appliances under their repair plan.

I've had great service, convenient quick appointments, and lovely engineers, BUT, I did have one call out to a washer that wouldn't empty on it's programme and I had to stand over it to forward it on. Repair man came, fiddled and left an hour later. I instantly put a load on, as you do, and now the computer was totally stuffed rendering the machine useless! I called them to complain and said, so I had a washer that worked but that needed work, and your engineer pays me a visit and now I have a washer that doesn't work, 4 kids, and a weeks worth of washing!! Get him back here now!! He didn't arrive, maybe he was scared Blush but his colleague did half an hour later. I think it's down to the luck of the engineer you get rather than Hotpoint themselves.

That said, document the damage, take photos, as they are liable for any damage caused. That old reasonable skill and care clause.

I had someone come and do a repair and forget to stick the drain hose back into the stand pipe. When you have a repair done you do tend to stand over it dont you for the first wash and I saw immediately what had happened....

We get so used to these machines dont we. Get a bit panicky when they stop working. When I was growing up my DM went to the laundrette once a week - I know where my nearest laundrette is but it seems very expensive. They do have big machines and the lady running it said she gets lots of people who come back from holiday and just want to do all the washing all in one go.. Even students tend to have machines on campus so I guess these shops are dying out now

I used to have a Hotpoint repair plan and, for them, it was good business because we opted for Hotpoint for all our appliances. However, whilst their service was good to start with it became totally appalling. So, as each appliance died we went for other makes. I really don't get why they can't work out what bad business this sort of practice is.
