That's it really. I am sick of spending my whole life paying rent to our landlord .

I want to buy some cheap land (plenty where we are) and build a hut and live in it like a medieval peasant.

I would probably have some sort of wood burner I don't know - I need to iron out the details Grin

Oh I have 5 children so would social services frown upon mud hut living.

Seriously though I would loveeeee to live some sort of alternative lifestyle. Our business is entirely online so we would need either a mud hut with good internet or an office nearby.

Aibu to actually want to give up on modern life?

If your living is onlne why stay in the UK? We're headed to another country for much the same life, under much the same circumstances. Find a place that has a combination of good land at low prices and lenient restrictions on dwellings then make some plans.

Definitely do it if you can OP. I would love to but i know i am too lazy to even research my options. So the LL benefits from my lack of gumption Grin

I rent but see it as I'm paying for a roof over my head, physical security (lockable doors etc) a bathroom, running water, heating, something to cook on etc. Yes I pay extra for a lot of things (council tax, electricity) but I wouldn't be able to access those things if didn't have somewhere to live.

And if something goes wrong it's up to my landlord to fix it at no added cost to me.

If I thought about it too hard I would get pissed off by just how much I pay (big University city in ST and rents reflect that) but everyone else in my city who's renting is in the same boat.

And I want to die a little bit at times if camping at Glastonbury festival despite the endless entertainment and the 'vibe' so I wouldn't last a day in a mud hut!

University city in SW not ST.
