To ask you who I should vote for?

I can read their policies, watch their debates until the cows come home but the problem is I don't believe a word any of them say.

I'm cross that the Conservatives haven't done stuff which they said they'd do. However my mum (dye in the wool Tory blames the LibDems for holding them back).

My main concern is the economy. So do I believe Dave who says the last Labour lot fucked the economy up and they're trying to sort out the mess and are doing a steady job of sorting it?

Or do I believe Labour who say it was a global recession and not their fault and that its a global recovery which has been aiding the Tories recently. And also that the Debt hasn't decreased as much as the Tories like people to think?

Then of course there is the fact that the Tories seem to be trying to save money by cutting public spending especially from vulnerable sectors of society which I don't agree with. But the Tories say that sadly this is the only way And if they don't do this we will end up like Greece or something.

I work in the nhs and worry about how much the Tories seem to be privatising bits of it and am concerned this will get worse.

Dd is a teenager and I want her to have a chance of getting a job when she's older so I'm worried about unemployment rates.

My dilemma is similar but I also find that I have a good local MP - involved in local affairs, has done what he says he would, replies to every e-mail I send him, done much more for our constituency than the previous MP did.

BUT he represents a party that I do not want in power and have never voted for.

AnnaFiveTowns · 07/04/2015 10:03

Carole, it is not my belief, it is fact. Look at the history of the Tory party and who and what they stand for. Their aim is to protect the interests of the few - Royalty, wealthy landowners etc. The welfare state and public services are not in their interests as it means they have to pay more tax.

Agree with Hanna. Carol, it's not working and you still haven't explained how the Tories are looking after the most vulnerable in our society.

caroldecker · 07/04/2015 10:43

It is working. The fundamental point is about the deficit and borrowing. It is impossible to support the most vulnerable if the country is bankrupt - look at Greece, the socialist party there is unable to fulfill thier pledges as there is no money.
We are not yet at that point. But no-one knows when the lending will stop. In 1977, the UK was bankrupt, forced to go to the IMF and public spending was cut 20% overnight.
Surely a balanced managed plan to cut spending is better than a forced emergency stop?
The reason the Conservatives have not eliminated the deficit yet is to avoid excessive pain to the vulnerable.

Carol at the very least my sentence structure and vocabulary should have alerted you to the fact that I am not a fucking idiot! That is a complete non reply. It is a sentence that says and means absolutely nothing. FFS, if you're going to counter an argument, do so, with an argument, not a trite and totally meaningless line of words.

maninawomansworld · 07/04/2015 12:11

The Conservatives have done a fair job of getting to grips with the almighty mess they had been left with by Labour.

It's true that labour did not cause the global financial crash but their terrible economic policies left our country at the mercy of it. They were the equivalent of a young person getting their first job taking out a load of store cards and credit cards - fine while you're earning good money but as soon as your hours are cut back or you're made unemployed....... you're SCREWED!
The Conservatives have spent the last 5 years trying to dig us out of the hole we were in and have done a fair job so far. I just hope that the public can see that all the misery of the cuts that they have had to impose over the last 5 years are not actually their fault!

I'm not a Tory die hard or anything, I genuinely believe they are the best of the bunch right now. I voted Lib Dem at the last election.

Dawndonnaagain · 07/04/2015 12:29

maninawomansworld So, if they'vve done such a good job, why is the deficit greater now.

If you need any reason NOT to vote labour this should be it.

AllThePrettySeahorses · 07/04/2015 13:43

maninawomansworld the Conservatives have not in any way, shape or form come to grips with any so-called mess that Labour left. In actual fact, the national debt has rocketed from 50% GDP to 80% GDP (the original 50% actually isn't much higher than the debt Labour inherited from the Tories in 1997 - think of that - a global crash and Labour still managed to keep the debt relatively low) and yes, the deficit has reduced a little but that just means that Tory borrowing has finally come down by about 40% compared as a proportion of GDP which, if the economy is growing even by a small amount, isn't really that much.

workadurka · 07/04/2015 13:44

man in a woman's world please can you share some examples of the fair job the conservatives are doing?

Also agree with PP that it's such a shame we are potentially dismissing or not supporting brilliant MPs in terms of constituency support because we don't want their party to be in the Cabinet.

maggiethemagpie · 07/04/2015 18:58

I remember labour blaming the tories for the 90s recession. Whichever side is in power during an economic recession will be blamed by the other. It's madness to think the crash wouldn't have happened had the tories been in power.
