Most people seem to say young adults.

OP posts:
Eggynuff · 06/04/2015 10:28

I would call him an adult.

LST · 06/04/2015 10:28

Adult

Alisvolatpropiis · 06/04/2015 10:29

Well they are teens, literally speaking, nine-teen. So no, YANBU.

Artandco · 06/04/2015 10:31

An adult.

Many 19 year olds have own family, houses and jobs, it seems silly to still call a teen as you would a 13/14 year old who still lives and home with parental support

shewept · 06/04/2015 10:38

I owned my own home at 19 and would have got my knickers in a twist if people kept calling me a teen. I would call someone of 19 and adult. But technically they are still a teen because they are nineTEEN. So yanbu but neither is someone who calls them an adult/ young adult.

ToadsJustFellFromTheSky · 06/04/2015 10:42

Why can't it be both an adult and a teenager?

Bowlersarm · 06/04/2015 10:43

YANBU. He is a teenager. Clue is in the nineteen.

CumberCookie · 06/04/2015 10:49

YANBU. 19 as a number is in the teens. So a nineteen year old is still a teenager, its just a fact.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 06/04/2015 10:51

I refer to my 19 year old as an older teen. When he hits 20 he won't be.

Rainicorn · 06/04/2015 10:54

He's not an adult until he is 21, so still a teen (that includes twenteen Wink)

I think it would depend on the context of the conversation really.

Bailey101 · 06/04/2015 11:01

I think it depends on the person - I know 19 year olds that are adults, and other 19 year olds that are definitely still children!

WilburIsSomePig · 06/04/2015 11:03

Rain he's an adult at 18 in the UK surely?

Rainicorn · 06/04/2015 11:05

It is, I'm just being sarcastic.

PurpleSwift · 06/04/2015 15:52

Are you bu? No. But they're still an adult.

Trills · 06/04/2015 15:56

Depends on the context.

When people talk about "teen pregnancy", they mean under-18s, because they are using "teenager" as "not yet an adult".

If you were talking about age and referred to "someone in their 30s", then the equivalent way of describing someone who is 19 would be "someone in their teens".

Eggynuff · 06/04/2015 16:15

Is there any particular reason why you ask OP?

tobysmum77 · 06/04/2015 16:19

I agree with Bailey and most 19 year old are far from being adults whatever the law says.

Notso · 06/04/2015 16:38

I had DD at 19 and went to teenage antenatal group. I felt really grown up but looking back with a DD who is a teenager I wasn't.
I think young adult sounds quite patronising even though I suppose it's intended to be the opposite.

bruffin · 06/04/2015 16:59

I still consider my 19 year old a teenager. He is still in 6th form. Does lots of grown up things like work, travel abroad by himself, deals in shares etc but he is still my little boy

eyebags63 · 06/04/2015 17:02

19... technically in their 20th year of life though.

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 06/04/2015 17:32

I was referred to as a teenage mum when I was pregnant at 19 so I guess it is still a teen.
