AIBU to not understand why people are still voting SNP?

Was this not the party that planned to bankroll Scotland on North Sea Oil months before the oil price crashed and gave the 'your just a westminister puppet' treatment to anyone who pointed out they're plan for Scotland was more hypothetical than me winning the lottery.

Can't understand why people now want them to have some power over the rest of the UK. Starting to think maybe it was better for the rest of us if they had voted yes.

I think you're late to the party, there's already a similar thread on the go.

Clarabumps · 05/04/2015 00:09

their plan for Scotland

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 05/04/2015 00:13

As a no voter: because they are an extremely efficient party who have had masses of success in a coalition government. Who are riding the success of a well fought and positive campaign. Who have a very compelling leader.

Although I find it interesting that it's possibly the first time a leader who is not standing in that election has taken part in a leaders' debate. (Assume the PC leader is the same?). No-one can vote for her as she isn't standing for Westminster.

RubbishRobotFromTheDawnOfTime · 05/04/2015 00:17

They were representing their parties though, not themselves. I can't vote for any of the people who appeared on the debate.

MintChocAddict · 05/04/2015 00:19

what Lonny said

Yes do pop over to the other thread. It's full of half truths, media spun inaccuracies about free prescriptions and higher education and general anti scottish bashing. What fun! Hmm

Kampeki · 05/04/2015 00:22

I can understand why people are voting for them. If I were in Scotland, I might vote for them myself.

In a funny sort of way, though, they may well prove themselves wrong in this election. There was a lot of talk in the referendum campaign about how little difference Scottish votes could make in Westminster, but the Scottish votes may well end up deciding it.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 05/04/2015 00:39

Yes but someone can vote for the other leaders though rubbish. Though it's no biggie, it just struck me in the context of the headlines.

Kampeki · 05/04/2015 00:41

But none of us can vote for the other leaders, actually, unless we live in their constituencies.

HirplesWithHaggis · 05/04/2015 00:46

Yabu. If you really can't understand, you need to read more than Labour bollox and engage a touch of empathy. I don't expect you to change your mind, but that's how to gain some understanding. Hth.

MintChocAddict · 05/04/2015 00:49

I do Kampeki.

I really admire NS and her policies and beliefs but just can't bring myself to move to SNP and TBH don't know much about the constituency SNP candidate yet.
Having been a long time Labour voter have been really disappointed over the past few years in Labour/Scottish Labour am really torn about giving my vote to JM.

Yes but they wasn't successful, it was half wishy washy promise the world policies and half nationalistic chest pumping. I think if they offered at least some pragmatic solutions on how they was to introduce they're policies such as currancy they could of edged it. Is anyone else remembering the EU President saying membership would need to be applied for and the SNP basically turning round and saying hes wrong?

They just seem like Labour to me. I'm a big socialist but it's a capitalist country and neither party seems to have a clue on how to offer pragmatic solutions to improve the nation as side from spend money, outlaw things and abandon the working class and vunerable for their pet projects (immigrants, minorities ect) the Rotherham scandal been the pretty biggest highlight of such behaviour.

By "us" do you mean english people? By "they" do you mean scottish people? You are aware Mumsnet is a UK-based site?

itsmeitscathy · 05/04/2015 11:52

"Can't understand why people want them to have power over the rest of the UK"

No...I'm voting SNP because I want to be represented when decisions are made about the FULL of the UK, not the rest. We're part of it too unfortunately.

StoorieHoose · 05/04/2015 12:03
