To think this is totally cheeky?

My DC were invited to a birthday party today, and along we went.

At the door we were told that our children were paid for, but if we wanted to stay with them we had to pay £15 each.

They are 4 and 1, so there's no way I would leave them... So although shocked, we paid the £30.

Once in the children ran around and some small animals were shown to them. Then they had a box of food each, nothing for adults, not even a drink.

Wtf is this? Has anyone else had to pay to stand in a child's birthday party??

(And thanks for the heads up too??)

I'd have Just walked out with thdm and taken them somewhere else.
As pp says all that info should have been sprecified on the invitAtion.
Supposen you didn't have the extra £30.00.

AlistairSim · 04/04/2015 19:28

I think I would have left. I couldn't justify spending £30 for another child's party!
Awful!
It would be interesting to know what the other parents thought?

CremeEggThief · 04/04/2015 20:35

YANBU, as the hosts should have made you aware well in advance, rather than springing it on you. That said, maybe one of you could have gone in with DC rather than both?

Justusemyname · 04/04/2015 20:46

I think you all paid for their child's party...

BooChunky · 04/04/2015 21:18

After we paid we said that one of us should have just left... But the host is my friend I guess rather than DH's, and DH hasn't seen the DC for over a week, so I don't think it would have been an easy choice of who should stay.

Pastaagain78 · 04/04/2015 21:41

Yikes! I've never had that happen! YANBU, that's really dodgy.

Only1scoop · 04/04/2015 21:45

I've been to many of these farm type places but never had to pay 15.00 per person. Never heard anything like it to be honest. There is no way I'd have paid 30.00 to supervise my dc at a party.

Aeroflotgirl · 04/04/2015 21:46

Yanbu at all, fecking extortion. The hosts should have stipulated a charge on the invite. Yes I would tweet the venue.

ChrisMooseAlbanians · 04/04/2015 22:04

It wasn't odds farm park was it? Their prices are unbelievable Shock

ohtheholidays · 05/04/2015 09:07

No it's not Odds farm, that was one of the places I was talking about you get a free adult place for every child that is booked in for the Party.

BOOCHUNKY have you looked at the farms site online?I would if you haven't and just check,I've never heard of anywhere charging for the adults like that and we've held lots of different party's(we have 5DC)at lots of different venues and attended lots of other friends children's party's .Probably been to nearly 100 by now and never came across that before.

PureMorning · 05/04/2015 09:09

I would leave scathing reviews all over the net. Cheeky beggars

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 05/04/2015 10:51

Completely outrageous- someone should approach the parents and ask why parents had to pay to attend a child's party. And complain to the venue too.

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 05/04/2015 10:54

I also can't believe all the parents PAID UP and didn't say anything!! Wtf?!

BooChunky · 05/04/2015 10:55

I think some of them probably did... But we didn't.

My friend looked pretty stressed out!

OP posts:
BooChunky · 05/04/2015 10:56

It wasn't strictly a farm... It's part of a larger place but we were in the farm part and not allowed access to anything else. That's why I said like a farm.

I don't want to say the place because it totally identifies me Wink

OP posts:
InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 05/04/2015 10:57

I'm not surprised! Maybe the hosts didn't realise beforehand?

Justusemyname · 05/04/2015 13:05

I'm still thinking this is the parents doing and not the places'.

JigsawsAreAllLittlePieces · 05/04/2015 15:26

Did you pay the venue or did the parents "collect it and pay as one lot" Wink

Could be you've just subsidised their Easter fun.

Difficult as you wouldn't want to turn around and go home having said to the dc "off to the party" as they would be very upset and its nasty springing it on you without notice. £15 (in your case, £30) is a lot of money to some people and some just wouldn't be able to afford it.

splodgeses · 05/04/2015 15:44

BooChunky

I would telephone and complain. Ask what their insurance child supervision ratios are, I bet it is a lot higher than 1:20. Then point out that you were there in the capacity to count toward supervision numbers, were not entitled to the full benefit of paying the entry charge (ie not allowed to wander anywhere but the party room) and you are disgusted. Ask for a full refund and threaten to review them on every single attraction website/forum/social media going.

Good luck Smile

gaggiagirl · 05/04/2015 16:09

Was it adventure land in co Durham?

Its £15 per adult to get into south lakes zoo!
I just couldn't afford that, I would swiftly whip dc away to soft play instead to make up for it. At least that's only £3 and i get a cuppa!

ScathingContempt · 05/04/2015 16:25

Did you pay the venue directly or the host parents?
