AIBU? Crowded supermarkets

I fucking hate shopping, but needs must. Went to get an easter egg yesterday and the place was packed. I tend to go into a bit of a blind rage as everyone and his nan gets in the bloody way Blush. When you finally get to the aisle you need, everyone decides to park their trolley in front of the very item you want.

Went to pay for my little egg Blush and someone is doing the monthly shop! FFS!!!

Well yes but they may feel the same way about you of course. Wink

PurpleSwift · 04/04/2015 09:47

What is the AIBU? You're not bu to hate how crowded it is but it is to be expected so perhaps you should have gone shopping sooner.

happystory · 04/04/2015 09:47

YABU going to a supermarket on Easter weekend to buy one Easter egg. Don't you know people are stocking up for a siege? ??

treaclesoda · 04/04/2015 09:48

Yes, how very unreasonable of everyone else to want to use a supermarket for its intended purpose Grin

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 04/04/2015 09:48

They can do the monthly shop, that's what a supermarket is for Easter Wink.

You should have gone early, avoid the crowds Easter Wink

Pyjamaschocolateandwine · 04/04/2015 09:50

We never bother with eggs anyway. Rip off.

19lottie82 · 04/04/2015 09:52

Maybe you should go when it's quieter? After 9pm is usually best

HagOtheNorth · 04/04/2015 09:56

Yup, shop before 10am or after 9pm and it's much more peaceful.
Shop at a pace that has self-scanning for one item.
Accept the fact that you have to share space with many, many people.
I hate shopping with aggressive, impatient and PITA shoppers in the same store, it doesn't make anything easier or faster if you roll your eyes, sigh and grump about other people. At least you had the sense to put Blush in your post, you should be.

revealall · 04/04/2015 09:58

I went shopping on Thursday after being away ( so couldn't go earlier).

Absolutely rammed. I needed to go and look in two other supermarkets as the one I did the bulk of the shopping in didn't have what I wanted. All packed out. Everyone complaining.

Madness.

Why are they so busy when you can shop online, go early or late and many shops will be open on Sunday and Monday?

HagOtheNorth · 04/04/2015 10:00

'Why are they so busy when you can shop online, go early or late and many shops will be open on Sunday and Monday?'

So what the fuck were you doing there? Grin

LisaMed · 04/04/2015 10:01

Tesco Delivery Saver. £6 per month, then as long as you order a minimum of £25 you have free delivery up to once per day for that month, any time.

One Easter egg + emergency stash of wine + any decent offers worth stocking up for = at least £25. Also = lot less stress.

hth

(I did an emergency dash into Aldi yesterday as forgotten Easter Egg)

HagOtheNorth · 04/04/2015 10:05

It's always everyone else that's the problem, isn't it?

3littlefrogs · 04/04/2015 10:07

The Easter eggs have been in the shops since Christmas.
Supermarkets are always hellish just before a bank holiday weekend.
When should people do their monthly shop?Confused

This. I don't like doing a 'big shop' anymore, so I do about five smaller ones every week, online. Helps me organise and budget better, and we have nice fresh stuff all week.

And YABU by the way. Everyone else shouldn't be there, but because you're just buying your one 'little egg' that's okay? There'll be a thread soon about someone needing to do their big shop and someone was in there buying one bloody little egg Grin

I really detest shopping with a passion!!

I used to love doing the food shop once a week with my Dad,my Mum would stay at home and me and my Dad would go to the supermarket on a Friday evening and get the weeks shopping.

It was the only bit of time I got on my own with my Dad when I was a bit older.Sometimes we'd stop of at the Cafe there and have a drink and something to eat.

But I think it helped that people seemed a lot politer back then.No one running anyone else over with they're trolley's,there didn't seem to be lots of poor stressed out parents with LO's trying to out scream each other(maybe something to do with the time we went shopping)and there was only 3 of us to buy for and the 2 dogs.

There's 7 of us and 9 pets so our shopping tends to take longer, but I'm also sure that people in general have got worse!

Titsalinabumsquash · 04/04/2015 10:20

Easter eggs have been on the shelves since Boxing Day, for that alone YABU Wink

Plus if you wait until Tuesday and go early, all the eggs will be reduced to clear Grin

Crocodopolis · 04/04/2015 10:20

Newsagents and corner shops sell Easter eggs. No need to go to a supermarket at the last minute to buy one.

Judge Crocodopolis has ruled and found you BU.

MmeMorrible · 04/04/2015 10:24

Plenty of smaller shops sell Easter eggs - why go into a crowded supermarket for a single item?

JemFinch · 04/04/2015 10:27

Online shopping.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 04/04/2015 10:32

Most shops have a basket only till or a self serve til so id say yabu to clog up the checkouts just for one piddly item.

YABU unless it was Sainsbos. That shop seems to attract fucking dawdlers.

Didactylos · 04/04/2015 10:35

FSS, doing the monthly shop in a supermarket! pausing to choose goods! Walking in the aisles at your own pace getting in the way
out of the road! Spud is important and apparently has more right to use the supermarket than the rest of humanity! and NEEDS that Easter egg!

spudholes · 04/04/2015 10:38

I was getting it as a favour for a family member whilst they waited in the car. Also, all the self-serve tills were in use!

I thought corner shops would sell out quickly because they only have small stock...

Hag0thenorth I just explained why I was there.

What I wasn't doing was a massive shop for the Easter weekend.

I haven't been to the shops since because I am not contributing to the madness.

Libitina · 04/04/2015 11:03

After many years of working for a supermarket I now avoid them where possible and get a Waitrose delivery (free with a £60 spend), much more civilised. I use the local village shops for top ups or stuff I've forgotten. Plus, the nearest big supermarket to me is 8 miles away. I also find I do less impulse buying if I do it online.

HagOtheNorth · 04/04/2015 11:07

'Hag0thenorth I just explained why I was there. '

How does being away stop you from online shopping and delivery?
