To think Maleficent is not suitable for a 3 year old?

My MIL has shown ds (3 years old) Maleficent which I think is unsuitable. To my mind is too dark/scary/violent for that age, however ds keeps asking to watch it and doesn't appear to find it scary, although he does want to re-enact done of the violent scenes.

Not sure if Aibu or not so would welcome views to help me decide if I should bring it up with her.

Yes Iggly. I was like you and your ds (and still am) which is one reason why I'm prepared to admit I'm over sensitive and unreasonable on this issue

My 4 year old loved that film

I thought Maleficent was a beautiful film, actually. Very moving, beautifully shot with a wonderful strong female lead. I'd certainly not describe it as dark or sinister.

I let my 3 year old watch it. We all loved it. I thought she 'maleficient' is a good strong character.

My 5yo loved it. I think it depends on the child.

I loved the film, but when mine were younger I'd've checked with the parent first. Bit late for this one it seems.

I think this is one of those films that younger like 3 can watch it because they probably won't understand the darkness of it, but then I wouldn't want a five year old watching it IYSWIM

I thought it was very very dark - essentially the wing cutting scene struck me as an analogy for the worst sort of assault. My teen felt the same. My 11 year old enjoyed it but also thought it was very violent.

My 4 year old really enjoys it it has become a firm favourite in our house.
