According to Facebook via gov.uk www.gov.uk/child-car-seats-the-rules/using-a-child-car-seat-or-booster-seat the law of using a rear facing car seat have extended but yet shops still sell 9 months - 11 years forward facing booster seats and rear facing seats are so much more expensive etc?

The law as I understand it is being phased in over 5 years, with isofix car seats first. So until the 5 years is over they are not breathe law.

dementedpixie · 03/04/2015 09:11

They are not illegal seats as the new carseats/regulations are running in tandem with the old seats/regulations until 2018.

What about people whose cars do not have isofix points?

museumum · 03/04/2015 09:21

The rule only applies to isofix.

Rabbishes · 03/04/2015 09:23

What everyone else said.

The change in law has to have a starting date but won't be enforced or widely publicised until nearer the end of the phasing-in stage.

JazzAnnNonMouse · 03/04/2015 14:56

But if they know it's safer shouldn't the phasing in be a lot quicker?!

It's the law for manufacturers, not retailers yet.
Parents need to take some responsibility for researching car seat safety.
It's always been safer for children to Rf as long as possible, it shouldn't take a law to inform people of that.
Rear facing are more expensive because a lot more goes into the design and testing and they usually offer better protection rather than just plastic shell+polystyrene.
