Wibu to go and push these kids off their bikes?

For two days now there's been some teenagers on mopeds riding past my house constantly. They must be going round the block over and over again.

The bikes are so, so loud I can't describe it, they sound like lawnmowers but 20 times louder. They were doing this at 10 o'clock last night, and at 3 o'clock in the morning.

When they're going past you can't hear the TV or hear yourself speak, sometimes they're stopping at the junction outside just revving the things.

I get that they're enjoying riding their mopeds but why do they have to keep going past 20-30 times and why in the middle of the night?

I'm 32 weeks pregnant, it's my week off and I'm ill with a uti and a horrible virus, not to mention the heartburn has kicked in.

That is very annoying. I know the things you mean, there are some kids near us that do that at a similar time of night, but in the distance so not too bad.
Could you contact 101 (London only?) possibly they don't have a license for them.

KurriKurri · 02/04/2015 17:16

Sounds like something community police officers should be able to sort out. I'd get in touch and ask their advice (presumably 101 number) riding around noicily at 3 am is anti social.

KurriKurri · 02/04/2015 17:16

noisily

Pyjamasandwine · 02/04/2015 17:16

I would call the police for advice and see what thru say.

TiggieBoo · 02/04/2015 17:20

We have this issue on our road, the police have been around a few times and moved them on, I would definitely contact them. Unfortunately they always come back after a few days, but at least we get some respite.

jerryfudd · 02/04/2015 17:28

You could report hoping they don't have insurance and have their lawnmowers confiscated

Pyjamaramadrama · 02/04/2015 17:31

I hadn't thought about non emergency police but I will. I suspect that at least some of them are riding them illegally.

I've noticed this a lot. Years ago kids wouldn't have dared to do this for fear of the law. Now this kind if thing just seems to get overlooked. I bet they're not wearing helmets on the mopeds either.

Nydj · 02/04/2015 17:39

Wouldn't it be better to ring environmental health at your council about this? Ours is open at nighttime so that people can report loud noise and it can be dealt with relatively promptly.

fairgame · 02/04/2015 17:40

I have the same problem down my street but the moped/lawnmowers whizz past at ridiculous speeds. It's been going on for over a year. The local PCSO can't do anything without me giving them a reg number. It's clearly too much effort for them to walk down to the ginnel where the mopeds congregate Hmm

Pyjamaramadrama · 02/04/2015 17:42

Nydj right now I prefer my idea of going out and pushing them off or better still getting the hose on them as they go past, it would be far more satisfying.

But yes your idea would be more sensible.

I suppose I hadn't considered that technically they were doing anything wrong as they are using the public roads.

Nah, they were doing it in the 70's as well. Really annoying, but not new.

Icimoi · 02/04/2015 17:45

I had this a couple of years ago when I was on holiday. I lay there constructing elaborate fantasies involving stretching a wire across the road at wheel height. Of course, I wouldn't dream of suggesting you resort to anything like that Grin

limitedperiodonly · 02/04/2015 18:08

wheel height? that's very generous of you. I'd be tempted to string piano wire at throat height.

OP you have my pity. What is the point of community policing if not for issues such as this?

RambleOn · 02/04/2015 18:15

It's fairly likely that they ARE doing something wrong. They often change the exhaust to derestrict them. Makes them faster and noisier, often outside of legal noise limits.
