Warning. I have been awake for a Very Long Time.

Anyway. All over FB, family messages, the bloody television us yet again 'oh a lovely long weekend off'

Not for some of us it bloody isn't. Some of us are working bloody nights AGAIN and managing to work some of friday, saturday, sunday and bloidy arsing bank holuday monday.

I'd rather be sipping prosecco, meeting family (who have the bloody weekeds off) and chilling.

AND I'm not able to go to church at all. And easter is quite an important churchy thing.

So. I think I should jack in my job and just do nice stuff for a while.

YANBU

CornChips · 02/04/2015 07:02

I SO agree with you.

NiceBitOfCheese · 02/04/2015 07:04

I don't often say this, but YANBU.

Is changing jobs a realistic prospect or just a fantasy?

WiseKneeHair · 02/04/2015 07:05

I work for the NHS.
I'm working Fri/Sat/Sun/Mon.
< shrugs> I can't get too upset about it as I knew the deal when I went into this career.
If it upsets you that much, then I suggest you look for something 9-5, Mon-Fri.

HookedOnHooking · 02/04/2015 07:08

I actually love my job.

It's just a shame you can't do it between 10 and 1.30, on 3 week days.

And I've never had a job with sensible hours.

When I have my coffee and cake and books and wool shop it'll only be open sensible hours.

Years ago I had a hotel and worked every bank holiday and Christmas. Like you I envied everyone who did not have to work. When I sold the business I got a job with no evenings or weekends but soon realised what a nightmare it was travelling at bank holiday and how expensive it was to go anywhere!

curlycat · 02/04/2015 07:14

DH worked all christmas, all new year and hes 12 hour days shift friday, 12 hour night shift saturday and sunday which means monday is sleeping. NHS as well!!

shewept · 02/04/2015 07:20

In my old job you had to work a certain amount of bank holidays. So I worked good Friday and Easter Monday to get 2 out of the way in one go. It was the first job I had where I didn't have to work every single one.

Tbh, I work for myself now and bank holidays are a pain, too busy everywhere to actually do anything. I used to work 4 x 10 hour days. I always opted for Saturday as one of the day I worked as I got 2 days off during the week. I love having time off when everyone else is at work, personally.

It looks like fun when you can't have bank holidays off, when you can its a bit 'meh'.

YoullLikeItNotaLot · 02/04/2015 07:25

When I have my coffee and cake and books and wool shop it'll only be open sensible hours.

Swap wool for pretty stationery and that's my dream too. Problem is I don't want too many customers spoiling the relaxed vibe so I'd have to charge £15 for a slice of cake. So there's a bit of a flaw...

I hear you though. I fully appreciate how lucky I am to have a flexible job that's fairly well paid but dagnamn it, it still manages to get in the way of, erm, life.

HookedOnHooking · 02/04/2015 08:49

Aaaah. The only good thing about working nights .......

getting into bed.

Fluffyears · 02/04/2015 08:52

I've been there it sucks. Now have a good office job with bank holidays off. Although at christmas we have to be in apart from the standard says so I get jealous about the 'two weeks off' posts.

PeppermintCrayon · 02/04/2015 10:55

I'm self employed so this drives me mad too.

Apatite1 · 02/04/2015 10:58

I'm working the weekend. YANBU. It sucks esp as my husband has the time off!

SquinkiesRule · 02/04/2015 12:25

NHS here too, I'm on nights Fri and Sat, so will stay up Easter Sunday and drag myself about like a Zombie and go to be early. Four in a row is a killer, I can manage two and do three at a push, but four? Hell no.

Flipchart · 02/04/2015 18:43

I've mixed feelings to be honest. I am working Fri/sat/Sunday. ( late on Saturday/Early on Sunday.)
However I like getting bank holiday pay, time off in lieu and having time off in the week where I can shop easier, the hills and mountains are empty when I go walking, I can get beauty appointments easier and thing like Sp days, lunches and cinemas are cheaper.

Purplepoodle · 02/04/2015 19:37

Upside is though having time off when other people work. It feels so luxurious and much nicer being out and about while everyone else is at work.

FaFoutis · 02/04/2015 19:43

YANBU.
People keep telling me to 'have a good Easter holiday'. I will be marking and writing 10 hours a day, every day, at home, while the children are here too.

I want to work 9-5, 5 days a week, at work.

sharonthewaspandthewineywall · 02/04/2015 19:46

I used to hate it. I worked in the city centre too and always saw the revellers enjoying it.
I know work mon- fri 9-5 and couldn't be happier

Ragwort · 02/04/2015 20:18

I tend to agree with Purple - I love having time off in the week when it is quiet - I am working tomorrow and Saturday - DH is taking our DS away for a family visit, good excuse not to go. I am so looking forward to a night in on my own, doing what I want. Grin. And in the sector I work in it is always quite fun and busy at weekends.

When I applied for the job I knew full well that we had to work 'anti social' hours - and let's face it, most of us want shopping & services 24/7 - that means someone has to work.

Flipchart · 02/04/2015 21:41

I worked 9- 5 Monday to Friday for 5 years. Although I loved the job I hated the routine.
I was trying to get to work and home in peak time which took twice as long than off peak times.
Now some mornings I can have a lie in mid week sometimes depending on my rota.
Also I use the ' I don't know what my rota is' to get out of things I don't want to do. ( even though I can usually get a swop and have never missed an event tht I have really wanted to go to!)

ChatEnOeuf · 02/04/2015 21:48

I have mixed feelings. I love my job, the relative tranquility of nights and the days off with DD in nursery. But I hate it when the rota stings you for a rush of BHs. My personal bugbear was the nights at Christmas, long days at New Year that one particular rota threw at us Angry

WatchOutForGoblins · 02/04/2015 21:49

I am working fri night, sat night and all day Monday. This is the first Easter Sunday off in four years but I put inthe hours previously and am now lucky enough tobe in a position to negotiate. :)

I love working evenings and weekends though (for the guaranteed income) and love the school hours to run my (small) business and also being able to be around for the kids after school and in the holidays and attend school events. It is like having the best of all worlds! Grin except the sleep deprivation

Rememberallball · 02/04/2015 22:12

I work in the care industry. I'm working tonight, a bit tomorrow, all weekend and all day Monday. Worked pretty much all of Christmas too.

I get fed up with everyone looking forward to all the holidays when I know that, for me, it's just another work day (and for the same money as any other weekend)
