Baby poo - Mum's advice please?!

I wouldn't usually post this on here but it's the only place I will get a reply at this time of night.

First time mum and need a bit of advice please!

My little girl is almost 3 months old. She usually poos about once every 2/3 days. Today she ate a bit more than usual in the morning then she did a massive poo, normal, but huge!

since 6/7pm today she has only taken a 3 oz then 1 oz of milk. I just put her in bed thinking "nevermind" and I'd feed her again if she woke up (as she usually sleeps through 8/9 hours already!)

Anyway I just put her down and she did the noisiest wettest diarrhea ever. Very runny, very explosive and watery. She seems OK besides being a bit moody. Anyway.... I've put her down in bed, and she's already fallen asleep.

Now my pickle.... Do I wake her up to feed her through fear of dehydration if I don't? Especially as she has barely eaten this evening. (4 oz and she's have usually had 8/10oz by now)

Or do I let her sleep?

She's never had diarrhea, can't see why she would besides me and my partner having a bad cold (she doesn't seem to)

She's formula fed if that makes a difference.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Any signs of teething?

Nanny0gg · 01/04/2015 23:46

My first thought!

If she's otherwise okay in herself, no temperature I would leave her.

Sleeping babies are best left!

HomeIsWhereTheHeartIs · 01/04/2015 23:47

I wouldn't wake her. If she feels poorly or thirsty I'm sure she will let you know about it.

Shelby2010 · 01/04/2015 23:48

I would leave her. She won't get seriously dehydrated overnight after one bad nappy. You might find she wakes up hungry/ thirsty in the night anyway.

CoffeeAndBiscuitsPlease · 01/04/2015 23:50

God I am such an amateur... haha

Her cheeks have been rosy for a couple of days, and she's also started chewing on her hands...

Didn't realise it was linked to teething at all! is that all it could be?

I formula fed all 3 of mine and they would poo every day?

Will she drink water in between feeds? That should keep her hydrated and hopefully pooing every day.

Have you spoken to your GP/HV about the 2/3 day pooing?

I think I'd let her sleep tonight as she seem a bit under the weather.

I'm not concerned that she doesn't poo everyday, everyone is different. It's been every 2/3 days since she was about 3 weeks old and never hard, always toothpaste type texture... yum! Just her normal pooing routine I would presume!

More concerned about this one runny poo and lack of feeding this evening :)

Oh ok, it's just that I've never heard of it and I'm jealous at the lack of crappy nappies you have to deal with Grin

Perhaps the poo was just runny because it was caught behind a 'poo plug', so didn't have a chance to solidify?

I'm sure she'll be fine if you leave her sleep and if she's not, she's bound to let you know.

CoffeeAndBiscuitsPlease · 02/04/2015 00:01

awww poor you and your multiple nappies! Yep she was everyday when breast fed, then when she went onto formula it reduced and stayed that way since.

Poo plug?? Dunno what that is but her massive poo was at 3pm (I'm not a weirdo who checks poo times, it just happened my friend had to leave at that time! lol ) And then this very runny one was about half an hour ago, so I doubt anything was left behind.

She was a bit fussy and grump before it, refused dummy and feed, but since she got it all out she pretty much dropped off to sleep and hasn't stirred since!

I think I'd be the same if I had a good shit to be fair Grin

CoffeeAndBiscuitsPlease · 02/04/2015 00:08

Haha! true! I haven't had a good once since the birth I forgot what they are like PML!

She seems settled, suppose I shouldn't wake her, it's only one night and one runny poo!

Yeah I'm sure she'll be fine Thanks

I don't know if you've tried giving her cooled, boiled water between feeds but that does apparently help to keep them regular.

Having said that, only 1 out of my 3 would drink it. The other 2 got angry if it didn't taste of milk!

CoffeeAndBiscuitsPlease · 02/04/2015 00:17

to be honest I've only just started getting her to take 4 or 5 ounces regularly and she's nearly 3 months old, so I don't want to fill her up in any way with water.

I'll have a word with the HV about it next week when she pops round.

Yup, probably teething. The chewing on hands causes more saliva to be produced and this can then affect their nappies. Was a sure sign for my (BF) LO that a tooth was on its way. Get some metanium in as their wee can become more irritating too.

dementedpixie · 02/04/2015 10:21

Both mine only pooed every 2/3 days and that was normal for them.

lornathewizzard · 02/04/2015 10:54

Just to chime in to say my dd at that age was only every 2/3 days too, so I think you're right not to worry. Changing now she's eating proper food mind you!

CoffeeAndBiscuitsPlease · 02/04/2015 16:58

No more runny poos so far but she'd been asleep most of the day and not eaten much at all. LEtting her rest though as she may still be a bit icky!
