to wonder how long it's ok to leave a toddler to shout for?

Bedtimes are tough at the moment.

DS has his bath, milk, usually two stories, and then refuses point blank to go to sleep, even though he's clearly very tired.
Asks for more stories, more milk, food, different pyjamas, toys...anything, basically, to delay.
I say night night, give him a kiss, leave the room...and then the shouted demands for whatever comes into his head begin.

How long would you leave him to shout for before going back in and settling him? He's not distressed, not crying, just standing in his cot calling for me to "come in and sit down."
Not sure how to handle it. If I do go in and sit down by the cot it seems to make it worse!

So. AIBU to ask how long you would let your toddler shout in this situation?
He's 2y 6mo...

Have a look at this book. I used the ones for babies and it helped us Smile

If I put DD (2yrs 4mths) to bed anytime after 7pm I would have the same thing. Anytime between 6.30 and 7 and she's straight off. Took me 7 months to figure it out though! She just gets far too overtired and doesn't want to sleep then.

My DS (2 years 5 months) has recently started this. He goes to bed at 20:15 so I know he's tired (up at 06:00). I give him about 5 mins before returning him to bed, with instructions to stay there. Sometimes he gets out again and this can be repeated up to 3 times on a bad evening. I would then leave him to yell until he puts himself back to bed. He's even more obstinate at afternoon nap time.
