Dd2 stayed there last night. Since coming back she's declared that "It's not right that we don't have proper telly like normal families do"

Dd2 has never asked for TV. Our aerial broke over 6 months ago and she's not mentioned it at all until now.

Our lack of live TV (we have Netflix and can get iplayer etc through the Xbox) was of major concern to ex when we first moved. We got the rats shortly after, so they became a bigger concern.

He's not mentioned the rats for a 2 weeks or so, so I'm assuming one of the authority figures he keeps reporting me to has told him to get a grip. Now dd2 comes back wanting "proper telly" Hmm

If I order Sky I can bill him for it, no?

The smell hasn't been mentioned in 2 whole weeks. That's four whole visits with dd2 and not once has she told me he needed to wash her clothes because she smelled of rats.

I might start rubbing rats on her before she leaves to see what happens Grin

My cat is evil though and I deprive the children of their recommended daily dose of Nick Toons, so I'm still failing as a parent and pet owner Sad I am so ashamed of myself, in fact I'm that ashamed it might even drive me to drinking wine tonight Grin

tbf, I agree with him on the cat, it is evil

On a more serious note, dd1 is on a waiting list to see a children's counselor, who works with the family's first team but has started washing her clothes less often.

Right - if you get sky it's a min £17 per month plus £99 set up fed (I think) for a min of 12 months, £303. Plus you'll need a big telly - about £500 - so £703 as a starter. Then any bundles - you absoloutly need sports, Disney etc. Let's call it £1000. Tell your DD to ask her Dad for that up front, then they can have live telly. Just like normal people :)

ConfusedintheNorth · 01/04/2015 19:29

Good gods he sounds like a charming piece of work! If my ex put me through that I'm afraid he'd be getting told that his constant criticism of you to your DD is putting her under undue strain and if it doesn't stop you'll have to seriously consider his future access.

FeckTheMagicDragon · 01/04/2015 19:29

I am obviously joking about the 'tell you DD' bit :)

DarthVadersTailor · 01/04/2015 19:53

I think you still need a TV licence if you're using services like iplayer and 4od OP

D0oinMeCleanin · 01/04/2015 19:57

I thought that was only if you watched it as it is being broadcast? Which with the exception of Dr Who when that's on, we never do.

Given the amount of baking dd1 does, a Sky subscription might be good for us Hmm There are more cupcakes in the oven now. It's her 3rd batch today. They're both sat on the floor with the dog watching the cakes rise. Poor children Sad

D0oinMeCleanin, I remember your previous threads and you sound like you are doing really well! You have taken massive leaps from the pushover who had her broken armed ex to stay so quickly after splitting up!
I was thinking of your cheeky DD earlier, when reading the New neighbour over reaction thread! The DD taking a starring role in that would so get on with you wage requesting DD!

RattieofCatan · 01/04/2015 21:51

Oh god, I thought that the rats thing was ridiculous when you mentioned it in the past, but now no TV is an issue? Pft. I totally think that you should bill him for the sky TV, the gin and also somebody to come clean the cage out, because that'll help with the smell y'see!

Would totally love for somebody to clean my four cages out weekly

I wonder, if so many rats eat through concrete, how do all of us rat owners manage to keep rats in cages Hmm

D0oinMeCleanin · 02/04/2015 00:40

Well we (dd2 and I) ate all the cakes. Apparently we need to make more now because they were supposed to be for tomorrows dinner party Blush

We watched Dolphin Tale 2 via the Xbox.

Dd1 made them both go to bed early because tomorrow we must exercise the terrier and dd2 for longer than normal, so as to encourage good behavior from them during the dinner party.

They are going to dye some eggs to decorate the table with and do some clicker training with the terrier dd1 later revealed that the egg dying was to mentally stimulate dd2 and prevent her from misbehaving, treats will be offered for calm egg painting in order to set a calm mood for the dinner party

So not only we do not have normal telly, but we also train dd2 in the manner of an over excitable terrier Hmm

Ex will be over joyed with us I'm sure Grin

MammaTJ, I have decided just to laugh at him. I'll never stop him saying the things he does and the things he says will never make sense to me or any other sound of mind person so the best thing to do is just to laugh at all ridiculous shit he comes up with and ignore the things I don't find amusing completely.

Rattie, of course no TV is an issue, they'll be bullied and ostracised
frrom their social group for not knowing who iCarly is hanging out with these days or what colour all of the My Little Ponys are, the fact that we can watch almost everything online is neither here nor there. It is something I am doing, so it is wrong and bad and wrong. The children will be scarred for life.

If dd2 remembers we have no TV and it genuinely seems to bother her, I will look into fixing the aerial, in the meantime, baking, crafts, outdoor play and family movie nights beat TV any old day.

Tell him you're all starring in an episode of Sky Living's new documentary series about families and their amazing pets, with the rats as co-stars, and you'd really appreciate him paying for a subscription because the kids are desperate to watch themselves on telly, with the rats. It'll be like Gogglebox, with extra rats.

TendonQueen · 02/04/2015 00:49

Just realised you'll probably need to look up Gogglebox Smile

D0oinMeCleanin · 02/04/2015 11:06

We watch GoggleBox at work. I get to watch TV, it's only the poor children who are deprived. Clearly I'm only bothered about myself.

You don't need a licence for catch up services, only live TV. My children are similarly deprived of normal telly and I got a refund if my remaining license for that year so definitely contact them!

MaitlandGirl · 02/04/2015 13:05

We don't have live TV, well we could do but I moved the TV and Xbox from the media room (which has an aerial port) into the main room (which doesn't) so I could create a study.

We don't have satellite TV (too expensive) but have just shelled out for Netflix.

The kids (all teens) don't miss TV at all - although DD1s friends (17/18 yr olds) are all stunned we don't have TV.

Sounds like your ex isn't happy unless he's complaing :D

HighwayDragon · 02/04/2015 13:23

Get a sky dish, and shove it up his arse.

I think you should tell dd that if she wants TV she can have it but daddy will have to buy it for her, and btw there is 3D TV now.

In fact I think she should have a look through an argos catalogue / online to see which TV daddy should get her and which subscription package.

And if she mentions no being normal, well darling that's true parents don't normally call social services unless they really believe there is a problem putting their child at risk.

fedupbutfine · 02/04/2015 14:13

I might start rubbing rats on her before she leaves to see what happens

please, please, please do this....and report back the result!

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 02/04/2015 14:32

Get Now TV. Its cheaper and you get a lot of stuff to watch.

Side note, can you get a live rat and set it loose in his house.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 02/04/2015 14:38

Oh on Now TV, you can watch the Disney Channel LIVE and watch things on catch and if you get movies, can watch the Movie Channels live. That'll blow his fucking mind.

LadySybilLikesSloeGin · 02/04/2015 15:16

I have a Sky HD box that you can have if you want it. You'll have to find a dish though but I think there's one on the thread Grin

ivykaty44 · 02/04/2015 15:28

If you RX has a sky account at home he can let his DC have the sky go and set up password for her...no charge for that and surely he would do that for his DC?
