Why is jay z launching his own service? Its expensive and doesn't he have enough. I pay 1/3 of that for Spotify, will be annoyed if artists pull their music and force you into paying three times as much

Bunbaker · 31/03/2015 06:56

You would have to pay me to listen to his music Grin

Lloydgeorge · 31/03/2015 07:05

Completely agree. I don't get it either. It's not the fans they should be getting more money from it's the record companies who siphon off so much. Beats charge $9.99 a month.

stareatthetvscreen · 31/03/2015 07:18

ridiculous - they have more than enough money

i didn't know you had to pay for spotify

londonrach · 31/03/2015 07:26

Just buy the cd and its free every time you listen after that. Cds are cheap at the moment. No idea who any of those artists are through.

jaynebxl · 31/03/2015 07:28

I've never quite understood why people pay for Spotify or anything else when you can listen free on YouTube. Whenever I'm working at home i stick YouTube on and listen to whatever I want.

DancingDays · 31/03/2015 09:08

I use Deezer and only justify the £10 a month as I listen daily and DCs have the apps on their devices so we do get alot of use out of it. £20! hell no.

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 31/03/2015 09:12

I pay £5 a month for Spotify Unlimited (didn't need the Premium), because I use it every day and it's so much less fiddly than Youtube, no adverts, just drag and drop music into a playlist and you're golden.

£20 is a total rip off.

EastMidsMummy · 31/03/2015 09:55

I pay £10 a month for Spotify Premium. It means I can play any kind of music in the car, anywhere, over my phone.YouTube has nothing like the range of music as on Spotify plus streaming video tales about ten times the bandwidth as audio.

RebootYourEngine · 31/03/2015 10:00

I dont get paying a monthly subscription to listen to music. Why not buy the cd or the download. Its a one of payment & you can listen to it whenever/wherever you like.

HeyheyheyGoodbye · 31/03/2015 10:04

I get Spotify Premium free with my phone contract. I have to say it is miles better than the free version or trying to use YouTube, especially on my commute etc. I can listen to it anywhere without having to think 'is that one on my phone' or whatever.

I certainly won't be switching to Jay-£'s version.

TidyDancer · 31/03/2015 10:15

I use Spotify Premium and it's worth it for me. I mainly use it for the gym or for when I'm out running. I will not be using that Tidal crap. I can't stand how its being presented as some kind of bullshit noble cause. If the music is pulled from Spotify then I will not use Tidal as an alternative.

Hoping this dies a death tbh, it will be a good lesson learned.

Hulababy · 31/03/2015 10:17

We use Deezer. Got a year free with DD's Sonos. We can use it on the Sonos, on our phones or tablets and online too. It's useful and seems to cover most songs/artists we've wanted. I think we will continue after it runs out though at £9.99 a month it is half the price of the one in the op

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 31/03/2015 10:35

Reboot it starts at 79p for one song. So for the price of say 7 songs, I can listen to unlimited songs as much as I want to all month.

sparechange · 31/03/2015 11:25

I love Spotify premium, especially their pre-loaded playlists.
I rarely have time to listen to the radio, so learn about new music/bands from their 'new music' lists. If it wasn't for them, I'd probably still think Scissor Sisters were the latest big thing Grin

Lloydgeorge · 31/03/2015 16:30

I'm just having a look and the Premium version is $9.99 a month. So why are the media reporting its $19.99, that's for the higher grade version.

BertieBotts · 31/03/2015 16:34

You can't get Spotify Unlimited any more. But it's free again so happy days for me :)

I don't like youtube, it's much harder to make playlists and the quality is variable.

squoosh · 31/03/2015 16:41

If I like an artist I'm happy to pay for their music, it means they're more likely to continue making music. So many people expect to consume music for free these days. It may not hurt Jay Z but it will hurt that little indie band who’ve just released their first album.

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 31/03/2015 17:00

Mine still says 'Spotify Unlimited' at the top Bertie. Are they cancelling it or do they just not sell it any more?

TidyDancer · 31/03/2015 17:42

Squoosh, not sure if you're aware but musicians receive money from Spotify. Their music appearing on there doesn't mean we are not paying for it.

squoosh · 31/03/2015 17:44

I know artists get some money from Spotify, it isn't a huge amount though.

championnibbler · 31/03/2015 17:54

very easy to transfer music from YouTube to ipod.
i don't know why anyone would shell out for music online any more when you can download and transfer it to mp3/ipod for nowt.

850Pro · 31/03/2015 17:57

Because championnibbler thats stealing, and some of us have been brought up with more morals than that.

EastMidsMummy · 31/03/2015 18:00

RebootYourEngine It's the equivalent cost of around 12-15 CDs a year. I'm able to listen to hundreds of new/old albums a year and try out albums that I wouldn't consider buying. Spotify is great.

ljwales · 31/03/2015 18:24

The thing is Spotify won't be a good service if all these artists start pulling music off it. TS did recently as the estimated 20-30 million a year from Spotify wasn't enough money and undervalued her workConfused

BertieBotts · 31/03/2015 18:41

Not sure moomin. I guess not selling it. But if you don't mind ads, tgey have taken the limits off the free version.
