And think that someone, somewhere, should do some bloody testing on drugs so I can get something better than 'simple fucking linctus' and paracetamol....

I'm 41 weeks pregnant and since dh borough a cold home last week have had a cough for over a week. So fed up, couldn't sleep till at least midnight, then awake again half an hour ago, woken myself up by wetting myself. Lovely.

Have tried everything, have inhaled steam, a vaporizer with menthol, I stink of tiger balm, I have drunk my own body weight not insubstantial in honey and lemon, and I have now just bloody had it.

I steamy to take a luck off good cough medicine that will knock me out for long enough so I can sleep for the first time in a week and not wake up every morning with false contractions because my coughing has caused the muscles in my stomach to hurt so much I'm convinced baby might actually make an appearance this year.

But if I go to the gp or boots, all get is the head tipped to the side 'sorry, we can't give you anything...have you tried honey and lemon with whisky?

Aaargh! Of course dh, the Tucker, has Nora worded comfort and just pretends I'm not keeping him awake. He had a cough for one night and now is fine again. Because he doesn't have a person compressing his lungs to half their size

Is it too much to ask that someone could just give pregnant women actual hard facts about what is actually in the good drugs and why we can't have them so we cam make a bloody choice ourselves?

Codeine is a cough suppressant and can be taken in pregnancy under guidance. But it's constipation get. Ask your GP and say you're desperate.

Hi there. I've had bloody terrible coughs s few months ago and what I found that worked was having fruit smoothies every day. I buy frozen fruit from asda, farm foods and sainsbury and put in some coconut oil too use pineapple juice as I've read that this can shift mucus better than any cough medicine, it really helps to thin it down so you can cough it up.

Buttercup syrup best invention in the world. No idea if suitable for pregnant woman. Have you spoken to gp or pharmacist and they might have some suggestions x

Is it possible that the cough might be from "nasal drip" and sinus medication would help? I had a few stand up rows in Boots trying to get co-codamol etc whilst pregnant and eventually sent someone from work who was not pregnant to stock up on Anusol, Canestan etc for me. (All things which a doctor will prescribe in pregnancy) Is there someone who can ask in a chemist for sinus stuff for you? It is so frustrating that pregnant women just have to put up with ailments which can be dealt with, we are grown ups and should be able to assess risk for ourselves. Your baby is fully cooked by now, if it was me I would knock back some night nurse just to get one decent nights sleep.

Eucalyptus in a steamy room coils help. Not sure if you can take Echinacea? My sil swears by raspberry red leaf tea for a shorter easier labour, no idea if it works myself. She had a great one, personally I'd try it but also use all drugs possible!

Treacle toffee? I'm sure some survey they did ages ago proved that sucking on some toffee suppressed the cough. At least it tastes nice!

I find i cough more when too hot.
Why did you need a CS last time?

I find my asthma symptoms are worse when my tsh is high.

Back from school run, managed to make it round the shops without wetting myself again, amazing..
got honey, lemon, fresh ginger and chocolate...
going to take a couple of low dose co-codamol and go back to bed, baby isn't going anywhere any time soon so it'll wear off in 4 hours. Got an electric vaporizer with menthol in it too.
Thanks to everyone who replied and sympathies to anyone else struggling..things don't seem quite so bad in the light of day as at 2am! DH even made sympathetic noises at me this morning a swore I didn't keep him up all night, which is something, for him, so is forgiven for bringing it home...
