to leave dd asleep in her pushchair

dd is 19 months, she is struggling to breathe as she is full of cold and wakes herself up coughing and choking on snot when I lay her down. she has fought sleep despite being shattered since 7pm and I had to strap her into the stroller to half an hour ago just to get her to sit still.

she is now asleep and snoring loudly. would it be wrong to bring my duvet down and sleep on the sofa and leave her in the pushchair for the night? it does lay flat but have only reclined it slightly so that she can still breathe ok.

I am fully prepared to be told Iabu and if so will move her to her bed but I really need sleep!!

I would do it for a night

Tomorrow try raising the head of her cot

Littlefish · 30/03/2015 20:53

I think it will be fine for one night. In fact, my gp recommended it when dd was struggling with a nasty cold (although this was years ago).

Artandco · 30/03/2015 20:55

I would. She's hardly a newborn baby and can move her head/ face away from anything safely.

Actually personally I would leave in for now, then lift and carry into main bed to share with you and dh for the night as more comfortable. But it depends whether she is a child you could lift and transfer

wheresthelight · 30/03/2015 20:55

She isn't in a cot as she learnt to climb out of it at 15 months! She has a double bed on the bottom of the bunkbeds she shares with dsd but propping up the mattress doesn't worn and she fidgets off the pillow mountain I tried to prop her up with. she has been sleeping upright on me the last few nights but my asthma is playing up so my violent coughing is waking her up

I would and have done it. She will sleep better if she is not laid flat. Hope you both manage to get some sleep

MissWimpyDimple · 30/03/2015 20:57

I have done this in the past. She might be scared when she wakes up in an unfamiliar place but as long as you are near...

Charlotte3333 · 30/03/2015 20:59

Yep, not unreasonable at all; you're right next to her if she wakes, and if she's comfortable and not at any risk, I don't see an issue.

DS2 used to have dreadful reflux as a baby, and had one of those nuna leaf chairs that swing from side to side. It was the only place his reflux didn't play up. I may have slept on the lounge floor a few times next to him just so as to get some rest. DH thought I was bonkers. You do what you need to do to survive and sleep.

irishamy89 · 30/03/2015 21:01

YANBU, you're just trying to ensure you and your little one get some sleep.
Enjoy the rest!

wheresthelight · 30/03/2015 21:01

thank you ladies!

She is absolutely out cold so I really don't want to risk moving her of i can avoid it as it's been such a battle (and 20oz of hot milk) to get her to sleep.

Dp works nights so isn't here and the dsc's are asleep in their rooms so don't want to keep going in and out iyswim.

will grab a cuppa, the duvet and the bar of galaxy and settle on the sofa.

I've done it. Not a problem at that age as long as she's comfy

shinynewnamechange · 30/03/2015 21:02

wheresthelight · 30/03/2015 21:04

sorry shiny have a Brew and I will share the galaxy around Grin

I'd do it. Sleep will do her good. Hope she's better soon xx

birdbrain21 · 30/03/2015 21:06

My daughter is nearly 2 and I've done this plenty of times when she has a cold as she also wriggles down if I prop up one side of the mattress. Just to point out though, I don't know if your daughter is one of those toddlers obsessed with milk (my daughter hates it!) but if she has a bad cold dairy won't help so maybe try bribing her with something other then 20oz of hot milk...Hope you both have a good nights sleep Smile

If she really only wants milk maybe dilute it a bit or give her semi-skimmed until she's better. I always remember as a kid not being allowed any dairy when we had colds and I'm always suprised how many of my friends don't know it congests you. I have tried it out, it wasn't just my parents driving us mad it really does block you up!
