to think £17 is too much for Harry Potter audiobook

Its not on iTunes.
£17 on the Pottermore website.

Is this the only option?
Am I going to have to subscribe to Audible or something? I already pay for Netflix, Lovefilm and Scribd.

Any ideas?

Are you a member of your library? If so download the overdrive app (check to see if your library is signed up to it) and you can download the audiobook and borrow it for 3 weeks, for free. Same way you would a paper copy. Worth a try?

Hathall · 28/03/2015 15:24

Free if you sign up to your library. You need the Overdrive app on your phone or tablet, join your library through that then borrow ebooks and audiobooks for free.
Ds1 loved listening t Harry potter.

bookwormbeagle · 28/03/2015 15:25

Meant to say I know the Harry potter books are all available in the Warwickshire group so fingers crossed it's the same nationwide.

Shosha1 · 28/03/2015 15:26

They are not on Audible uk. I wanted it for nephew

kittykarate · 28/03/2015 15:26

Audible.co.uk doesn't have the Harry Potter books.

Girlwhowearsglasses · 28/03/2015 15:29

Thanks - all power to JK not dallying with The Man, but its a bit much paying £17 for just one book.

My local libraries don't do it. Am going away tomorrow and was hoping to take it. Not sure if it would work for us because I've got very old iPad (doesn't update apps any more as its a first generation on and the OS can't update) and 2 iPods which are v old school and no apps at all. It'd need to be importable in iTunes.

Audible do a 30 day free trial - you could sign up, get the book and then cancel.

Bailey101 · 28/03/2015 15:42

Ignore my last post - should have rtft Blush

NeedABumChange · 28/03/2015 15:45

They are really long though and Steven fry is very good. I used to have the cassette tapes and then the CDs- flogged them all at a car boot last year for £5 a book.

ladymariner · 28/03/2015 15:48

We have got the whole set on cd, yes they were expensive but oh, I wish I had a pound for every time ds listened to them, I'd be a millionaire by now!! And they were an absolute godsend on long car journeys!

Girlwhowearsglasses · 28/03/2015 15:58

I feel a bit tight about it TBH as I bought the box set at Christmas, and some of the books, and a few of the eBooks too. I guess I do have 3 DSs so it's worth it up to a point.

£17 is a fairly average amount for an audio book on audible if you pay full price - some of the Terry Pratchett are over £20. The Philosopher's stone from Pottermore is 8.5 hours of Stephen Fry, which is fairly comparable to the Audible abridged versions of the Cressida Cowell Dragon books, read by David Tennant which are around £12 for 5.5 hours on audible.

The difference is, of course, that there are subscriptions on audible and frequent sales and offers, so it's fairly rare to pay full price.

crimsonh · 28/03/2015 16:03

Get audible. Download your free book. Then subscribe straight away. Best value is to pay for a year in advance and one book works out 5 pounds each.

crimsonh · 28/03/2015 16:05

Is rare to pay full price few months in. Youvare getting 10 pounds voucher if you use 3 of your credits. But to start with you would just use your credits.

RustyBear · 28/03/2015 16:06

The Potter books aren't available on Audible, crimsonh. There is lots of other good stuff though.

Moresmores · 28/03/2015 16:10

Borrow the CDs from the library, you can reserve them in or you can download them via their ebooks

crimsonh · 28/03/2015 16:22

I didn't realise they aren't.
Another option would be to join a library in a different county or town.

idiuntno57 · 28/03/2015 16:32

We are listening to the dulcet tones of Stephen Fry in the car as I type. We are on a loooong journey. Kids are just fine. The books are worth every penny for the gift of low stress car travel that they bring.

Worth every penny and will continue to be so for years to come.
